Re: Motor mounts stuck to the crossmember

Sorry - correction. You leave two of the three bolts in the frame. One is removed when clamshelled. BUT - you only have to mess with one of them and it is up front and easier to get to.

Re: Motor mounts stuck to the crossmember

I too have changed the mounts, but my engine was out. Even still, PITA is correct. Slightly easier to put it back together with the nuts and washers on top, and feeding the bolts through the bottom...

Re: Motor mounts stuck to the crossmember

I totally spaced your point! Yeah they spin, because you have to hold the nut! Good call. I'd still clamshell however.

Re: Motor mounts stuck to the crossmember

Do a search on the site for changing motor mounts. It is easiest to clamshell the mount and change the rubber.

Re: Replacing my camshaft AND my distributor...Any tips from you experienced SBC guys

New damper mfgs recommend putting it in the oven for an hour at 250. 400 is too hot. I wouldn't use a torch either. Get a puller/installer as well.

Re: bad noise when trying to start

Just a quick check - turn on your headlights to start the car. If the lights go out, you have insufficient power. If they don't, you have starter issues. This isn't foolproof, but it will help you...

Re: From Oil dipstick tube to oil pan gasket

I would be concerned that he may have bent the pickup tube. Look for a loss of oil pressure when you make a long turn. Also look for bubbles in the oil. You may be starving the pickup tube if it...

Re: Need help with project

Do you have lots of engine power? Can you hit WOT and it races? Does the car tilt left and right from the torque of the engine?

I agree. We didn't use it often, and you are correct, only once or twice on a car/truck engine. I forget the spec, but you would look for the drop whenever the burnt valve operated. If you had a...

Also, is there a gap between the engine block and the bellhousing? The torque converter must "seat" itself properly. It is possible to put them back together and not have the torque converter...

Re: radiator fluid

For troubleshooting issues, I agree to check the thermostat to see if it is opening properly. No more than what they cost - go back with a new one regardless of what you find.
