Firehawk Tire Question / Already Searched

What is the largest tire that will fit on the Ronal Firehawk Wheels (17 x 9.5) on the REAR of a 1990 Formula without causing problems? I know that Firehawks originally had 275's on them. Thanks!

BTW .... I installed an Eibach Pro-Kit set of springs on my car. So it should sit about 1" lower than stock.

Re: Firehawk Tire Question / Already Searched

Hey, sorry I took so long to get back.
Heres some pics of the gaps.
Between the fender lip and tire is a good deal even with the Eibach ProKit lowering springs. The tire does sit inside the lip, so its hard to judge on my 275-40s what effects a wider tire would have. Plus the Falkens I have angle in spightly. I know some times have more of a 'shoulder'.
The gap between the inside top of the tire and the upper part of the fender well (closeup pic inside) is about 1". So if your tire is alot wider (which may not fit on a 9.5" wide rim) than it may scrub in there.
Clearance at the LCA, also shouldnt be an issue with the 9.5" wide rim as shown in the one pic.
I do also have Spohn LCA Relocation brackets. So my LCAs hang lower and more next to the tire edge as shown.

Hope these help.

That is EXACTLY what I needed. I have Spohn LCA Relocation brackets as well. I hadn't even thought about that. Looks like 275's are the way to go.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate your help and the extent you went to on my behalf.

BTW ....... PM sent.

You'll need front and rear 2 inch spacers to run my wheels though. Any 4th gen offset wheels need them. There are a few wheels that don't, but they are hard to find. However, if you have a 4th gen rear end (like mine) you won't need the rear spacers.

Re: Firehawk Tire Question / Already Searched

I just need pictures showing the clearances for the wheels. If I can prove to my uncle that there is enough room (without mods of any kind) he said he would buy me 17x9.5 wheels. So... I guess there are enough pictures proving the backs fit without any issues, but do you have any showing the clearance around the front wheel? Pics of it at full lock left and right? and how about how far they stick out in relation to the fender lips?

Thanks a bunch!
Mike

Re: Firehawk Tire Question / Already Searched

That one is at full lock left. It rubs just a little, but that was due to the allignment. I just (like five minutes ago) took the 17s off the car and put the 16s on, or I'd take some for you. The front actually tuck in very nicely, though. Here is a few shots of them:

and from the rear...

Re: Firehawk Tire Question / Already Searched

Ill get some for you 'Geek also.

Did yours come with 16s or 15s stock? Mine came with 15s stock. Theres a diff between the 'stops' on the 2 stock sizes. I think the 15 stop allows for a tad more turn and thus causes a slight rub on the swaybar where it curves. But I also have a 34mm front bar.
Also there was an early and late design inner fender sheild (plastic part). At the back of it, mine has a slight rub because mines the early design. The later design has a recessed section where the tire comes next to it in full lock. I think thats how it goes.
Try to get pics today for ya.

My car came with the 16's from the factory, so it has the WS steering box with the smaller turning radius and larger bump stops. It's an 87, but I don't know what the cut off for the inner fender difference is. I do have the 36mm front bar but I don't think it will be an issue.

Thanks,
Mike
