Rickety, loose, "old car" feeling
Just picked up my 88, the engine/trans are in great shape, but the car has the rickety, loose, "old car" feeling. Is that more of a shock, strut problem or a bushing, tie rod end, ball joint etc. problem? It doenst really have a "bouncy" feeling, but going over bumps it feels rickety. Thats really the only way I can explain it. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. For instance, my parents have a S2000 and it just feels "tight", the camaro feels loose. I know I will never get the S2000 feel out of the camaro, but I want to fix it so that it feels a little "tighter" than it is.

If the steering wheel has allot of play in it,it may be time to rebuild the front steering pieces.
We offer a nice kit that should tighten it up for you making the steering tighter as it once was.
Here's a link to our steering rebuild kit,we should have them back in stock soon.

Re: Rickety, loose, "old car" feeling
my car felt loose and unpredictable, it corned ok but sudden lane changes at freeway speeds was down right scary, i have rebuilt/ replace every steering susspension component on my car. evry little bit helps but for me the panhard relocation did the trick, my car was lowered and it through the panhard off level and the car was the worst handling vehicle i had ever been in, got it nice and level and the car handles good that and adjusting the steering box made the biggest differences a new idler arm should help too, SFC's make the whole car feel newer/ stiffer
if your control arm bushing are original thats a problem right there

Check bushings first, they are usually crumbling and rock hard after almost thirty years. Rebuild the steering, that helps A LOT! Entertain the idea of stiffer shocks and springs, that makes a WORLD of difference!

If it is a T-top car, then I would get subframe connectors (Weld-in only! Bolt-in are a waste of time/money IMO.) I think everyone else is also right on the money. After 21 years anything that is made of rubber or sustains wear, such as tie rod ends and bushings, will be worn out or hard and brittle. Subframe connectors will make the car feel more "Solid" and stiff.
Good luck!

Hello
I noticed that you are looking into a possible suspension upgrade! Well I just wanted to leave you know that UMI Performance has a wide variety of aftermarket suspension components that might be of interest to you! Lets face it the cars that we are dealing with the bushings are dry rooted and sleeves are rusted down to nothing. Below is a link to show you what all UMI Performance has to offer to get your ride back to a quality!

If you have any other questions feel free to ask and I will be more than glad to help!
Thanks
Brad

check your floors too. If they are rotted out and nasty then it will feel very loose. When I got my floors redone I could feel a world of difference. I also did all my tie rods/idler arm/alignment and it feels really stiff now.
