87 T/A torque arm remove
hi i am trying to remove the tail shaft housing to straighten out my drive gear (either clip broke or came loose but gear is not in right place to mesh with the driven gear on my speed sensor) but i have Ws6 suspension with that said, do i really need to remove the torque arm completely? cause then i have lower rear axle and remove rear coil springs which seems like alot of work just to remove the tail shaft housing. i dont want the torque arm to tear through my floor obviously. or am i going about this wrong way?

I was able to pull it back down without using any tools for assistance.
Also, if you remove it completely, all you need to do is secure the axle with something so it won't drop too far.
If you remain on the ground, make sure to secure the vehicle from moving about too much.

ok thanks ill try the cardboard idea first. not to sound stupid in front of the gear heads or anything, but what is the torque arm for? does it locate the rear differential? is it there to keep the axle in one place when you punch it? how dangerous is this piece of metal?
When you have the car jacked up, the tque arm will just hang there when you loosen the front mount. There is no trust being applied to the rear wheels so there is not upward or downward tension being applied to the TQarm when it is just at static rest.--just unbolt it, it will move out of bolt position with just a little tension, but nothing dangerous. You can push and pull it about by hand. It will just hang there.
