It is going to be a pain. You may as well swap cams now, as you will only need to remove a few more things. You will kick yourself in the butt later on if you don't. I've never replaced a head gasket, but I did have to rip my heads off my old engine and it is a pain. I hope you have a long breaker bar. A starting point would be a haynes or chiltons manual as far as help goes. After that, the motor swap board should be helpful in assisting you. Best of luck.

Head gasket or intake gasket?
If you are talking intake gasket did you use the rubber gasket for the china walls or just RTV?

just shove some hi temp silly putty in the area where .....
No, you have to take the heads off, theres a lot of pressure in there that rtv would do no good. Hence one of the reasons head gaskets are metal.

If you've gotta take a head off and replace a head gasket, now would be the time to go ahead in change the cam. You're already gonna have the intake off, distributor out, a head off, etc...you would be half way there. I've seen you post about some LB9 heads you were getting. This would be the best time to do all of it. I bet you would see a noticeable improvement too. Just my $.02. Good luck with it.
