Dissapointed yet Saprissed at the Dyno

I took my 90 camaro 305 tbi 5 speed (3.08 rear) to a dyno yesterday. I was a little dissapointed in the hp but happy when I saw the torqure.

1st run: It was all over the place and the guy didnt print it out because it was so bad.
2nd run: It maxed out at 157 hp and 247 tq (ran best around 65-75 mph in 3rd belive)
3rd run: 154 hp and 250 tq ("" but mainly 70-75 mph)

I would like to know what rpms I was running.

I am also hoping to hit at least 180hp by doing pulleys and adding a new fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator.(IF you dont think possible please add what you think it would take) It currntly only has the K&N air filter and xstream flow top.

Re: Dissapointed yet Saprissed at the Dyno

gotta get headers, high flow cat, and a catback exhaust. that will net you the biggest gains in HP without tearing into cylinder heads, camshaft. but those are things you should look into also in the future.

Re: Dissapointed yet Saprissed at the Dyno

That's a pretty respectable dyno run for a stock TBI 305, the motor is only rated 170 hp at the crank. Better than mine was bone stock - 142 hp & 224 lb/ft and max hp at about 4000rpm. Headers and 3" exhaust & high flow cat netted me 12 more hp. Open element air cleaner netted 10 more hp and about 20 lb/ft. After some playing with the ECM tune (EBL Flash), I was able to get the HP to 169 at 4500rm and brought the torque up to 250.

On my most recent dyno run, I promptly broke my motor and am currently finishing up a TBI 383 with Vortec heads and intake, should be running in about a week.

The 305 in my van with the stock LE9 cam and 187 TBI heads made 181 RWHP @ 4,200 and 268 RWTQ @ 3,200. That was after a little chip work, 1.6:1 full roller rockers, with Tri-Y headers and dual 2 1/2" exhaust. Stock 1992 G20 van TBI intake, ultimate TBI moded 350 TBI unit, 350 injectors, 92 "299" ecm that had been tuned, 700r4 with S10 converter, and 3.08 gears. Ran 11.40 @ 66 mph in the 1/8 with that setup.

A lot of the parts to pump them up are expensive and major mods though, and usually not things that most of us can do

Yup and in my recomendation if your completely stock or near it. your better off going a different direction. LSx, stroker carb'd, or something of that nature. But I love my TBI car so i'll keep chugging along...

Re: Dissapointed yet Saprissed at the Dyno

Whoops sorry I forgot to mention about the exhaust.
It is straight piped but the guy did a **** *** job on the passanger side. Instead of bending the pipe he just made it a T and pluged the bottom.
And I do plan on headers forgot to mention that too.

FYI changing the rear end gears will not add a single HP to your engine.

And a camshaft swap for a novice automotive person is about a 8.5/10 on the hard scale.

But it's doable and if you have time to have your car down I recomend you doing it. because if you take your time you CAN do it and it'll be easier the next time.

i know changing the rearend wont give me any power but dam the 2.73 open rear is geting very old a 3.73 would give me a better launch and faster 1/8 mile times right now i have ran a 9.7 1.8 mile not bad but i cant get any better with a 2.73 rearend

yup you are correct, I would believe it would dramatically increase your 1/8 mile time. The way you worded it. It made me think that you thought it would increase HP. Get it in already!

3.73s in a low revving V8 may actually not help speed the car up that much. Gears are more for when you have a motor that makes its power at higher RPMs. The gears will help you get to your powerband sooner and not bog off the line. With the stock 305, its already giving you most of what its got by the time the torque converter reaches its stall speed.

well I think in the 1/8 miles the 3.73's will keep you pretty close to your powerband if you make sure to hit drive. If your not hitting drive then I dont know if thier really that good for it. IMO.

I run 4.56s and 26" tall P275/40/R17 drag radials (first gear last almost exactly 60') on my 5,750 lbs quad cab Ram and it runs 8.70s through the cast-iron manifolds and factory cats in cooler weather. Took it out and ran 8.90s in this heat, the slapped my long tubes and open 3" pipes after them. Went 8.60s @ 78 mph in 100+ degree heat.

My van has had 3.08s in it for years and I know it would love 4.56s as well.
