530 HP with Edelbrock ETec heads ?
Did you guys read the article in the latest Car Craft about making 530HP from "spare parts" ? These guys took a 355, a big solid flat tappet cam 254/259 .562/.561, and an Edelbrock RPM intake and of course the Edelbrock ETec 200 heads and made 529 HP on a the dyno with it! They also used a Mighty Demon 825cfm carb. Why isn't everyone doing this ? It seems like a proven combo to me! I'm thinking about building this, but with a solid roller instead!

Yeah, why didn't I think of that? I have all that stuff, carbs, heads & more, in my "spare parts" bin from the last 3 or 4 magazine artickes I wrote!!!

I wasn't talking so much about the heads... I suspect they're good for quite a bit of HP, since they're pretty much aftermarket "Vortec" (raised intake port) heads... just the wording of the magazine article about "spare parts", then looking at what those "spares" are, is enough to make a maggot barf.

yea how many of us have spare $1000 heads laying around, not to mention solid flat tappit cams and pricey race carbs
for me that build up would be called 'project-blow-my-budget" lol

I sort of agree with the auction, I don't believe their were directing the spare parts idea directly to the readers. I believe they just happen to come across a good setup so they went with it. May it had been planned or not, still come out. I believe the reasoning behind it is, most of those parts aren't really expensive. Obviously the heads are going to cost alot, but most do. They went with a flat tappet cam which would reduce prices quite well. The only thing that the original poster skipped out on is here is the high compression they ran. Which might or might not work well in an everyday car, I'd hate to see it run on slightly bad fuel. Overall I consider it pretty well done, and I would consider that a pretty good budget buildup considering the amount of power it put out. 529 horsepower ought to be good for mid-high 11's guess around 118-120mph.
Nothing I would complain about anyways.

LMAO aint that motor blown hahaha don't you mean 305 lmao just playin. I have a ZZ4 I am thinking of running the etec 200 heads air gap intake and a roller cam sort of the same size as they did I hope to hell it builds that much power or close with less compresion I will let you all know how it works out and I will make sure to flash on odyssey. latezzzzzz
