A.C. Delete Who has done it??
I was going to take the AC and all the parts off my car since I dont use it and its taking up space. I am trying to clean up the engine as much as possible for engine swap and AC is not a concern. Who has done this and what did you do to make it look good?? Need to know where to get a AC Delete pulley also.

I have removed every single item related to A/C except the compressor. I have an A/C delete heater box and a pulley coming in the mail. The box I got off Ebay, the pulley from gmpartsdirect.com.

I still have heat.....
I gave it the "Krylon touch" before install .
These boxes are getting harder and harder to find though... I got mine off the classifieds here at thirdgen... I forget who I got it from though . If you go the non-A/C heater box route you will also need a different blower motor and wheel.
Mine could look a lot cleaner, but I kept the heater control valve and have those heater hoses routed all over the place to keep them away from the engine..... not the fanciest looking setup, but it works fine and I don't have to deal with them when working on the engine.
Mine is also an 87 so I was able to just remove the A/C compressor and related brackets all together from the engine. The condensor is a simple removal with the upper radiator mount plate (the black plastic thing) removed and the lines disconnected... The lines and the accumulator are also a simple yank and toss operation as well.... I kept the wiring intact just in case and tucked it into the harnesses and taped them up.

Here's mine: non-AC delete box, bought it from someone here on thirdgen.org who sells them. It came with the blower motor and wheel, but I paid like $90 or so with shipping included. I eliminated the heater valve to make things a little cleaner. Also, I didnt want to cut out any of the harnesses for the AC, in case I ever want to put it back on, so I carefully tucked them away inside the polyloom, or back in the fender.

hmmm
heres what me and bluegrassz did for ours just until we can get the non ac heater boxes.....
it's great losing the ac because of the weight savings and it gets rid of the condensor so the radiator has no flow abstructions at all for better cooling.... mate that with a 160* thermostat and your set!!!!

Tell me this...
Let's say you owned an original 1955 bel-air. Bought it brand new back in the day for 6,000. Still in good condition today but a few minor problems with the body. A little rust. Well people are paying close to $25,000 for a totally original mint example of one because they are popular. So you could probably get maybe 15,000. Are you going to try and sell it for 15,000 or 6,000?
Do you own your own home? Real Estate appreciates and you get to sell it for more than you bought.....are you gouging someone because you sat on a good piece of property until it became profitable? no. You are simply taking advantage of the market.
GOUGING someone is overcharging them for something readily available and accessable....now if you could buy the boxes straight from GM for $40 and i charged someone $100 and he paid for it, then yes i'm gouging. I'm simply trying to make a profit. Sorry you dont feel the same way.....

Sweet! Thanks, JP!! I'll give it a shot. Maybe I'll even grab a fan from a junkyard to play with it first. Thanks for the tip on using a regular 'ol soldering iron to "weld" it back together; didn't think that would work.
Whew; thought I screwed the pooch on that one. That's the last time I ever think "oh, I have a (part name) already, I'll just leave this in the junkyard"!
[edit] Oh and regards the availability of these things; the day before I found mine, I found another one- sort of. It was in an '85 Firebird, without factory a/c- but with an aftermarket air conditioning system!! I was like "oh, cool", then "Oh, damn" when I saw they removed (and probably threw out) the old heater box. They had some homemade square box on there. I meant to go back with my $60 digital pen-cam and take some shots of it, but when I went back, the car had been crushed.
Kinda funky; they modified the original heater controls. The fan speed switch was replaced with a big combination switch (think power/volume/tone switch of an old 8-track radio) that turned the a/c on and off. Compressor was a somewhat skinny, very long Nippendenso, with a homemade bracket. It was driven off an added-on pulley to the factory crank pulley. Dammit; now that I think of it; I should've gotten the crank pulley and water pump pulley off that car for my car- the junkyard car was a 2.8 MPFI v6, same as my motor.
The worst to come out of the $100 pricetag for that box is nobody buys it, and he's stuck with it. And from the rarity of these boxes, it doesn't sound like he's bothered with being stuck with it. If I could score a second one for my future "I'm married and have a two car garage" v8 Firebird project car, I will. Besides, it's not like the box can't be fabricated.
Hey... there's an idea... who wants to make a fiberglass mold for these things? Lets reproduce them ourselves!!

The fan cage has a plastic ring at the end facing the firewall. Cut this off flush. Then mark where you need clearance and cut the fins. Solder back the ring being careful to keep the welds LARGE.

Oh and it'll reuse your current resistor wires for the motor speed. Oh, can't forget it'll come with hardware (shorter bolts) and a gasket. If that's not good enough for you, how's being sanded smooth and painted sound, or I could cut you a deal like DJ Sexay did with his kick panels.

Just got my Delete pulley
OK, I just ordered my delete pulley and it looks different from the pics above. the plate the bolts go thru is only an inch thick and the pulley is only 3" in diameter. I ordered PN 10115875. It looks like it may work with some kind of spacers to make up for the plate thickness but I dont know.

Eric,
It is the pulley at the bottom of the pic. Sorry, but I don not have any specs on it. It is a direct bolt in piece.
I purchased the pulley from gmpartsdirect.com for around $46.00.

Camaro91S,
The part # for the third gen delete pulley is 10055890. You may have gotten the one for 4th gen cars. The pulley should fit perfectly without any modifications.
