TPIS MAT relocator kit
Is TPIS kit the only one that uses an LT1 MAT sensor ? I'd rather cut a finger off than buy something from them.Does the LPE kit come with an LT1 sensor ? I'm not sure who else makes the kits , so if you know of others please post them. Thanks

Why do you need a kit? I just went on over to the local auto parts store and requested the specific sensor I wanted and then found a grommet that the sensor would fit in. Then I went home and bored a hole in my airbox, slid the grommet in and snapped the sensor in place and extended the harness about 18 inches, wrapped it all up in convoluted tubing and WA-LA: homebrewed MAT relocate kit!

LOW performance people should drive low performance vehicles!

CanBeast,
The original location for the MAT is on the underside of the intake plenum. During normal operation, the plenum will leach heat from the intake base. This tends to artificially heat the sensor, causing a potentially erroneous reading to be reported to the ECM (generally hotter than the actual air temperature). When the ECM detects warmer intake air, the fuel mixture gets some lean offset. To remedy this, the MAT sensor can be located farther upstream in the intake ductwork. If you question the validity of this project, GM didn't. They moved the MAT sensor on LT1 engines to the intake duct in 1993. Problem solved.
Incidentally, I'm with '84 and Red Devil - I did mine for less than $30.00 with a new sensor. If you're interested ing some details of the project, including part numbers, check this link: MAT Relocation. You'll need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view/print the file (see link below).
