Ideas for my Formula

Hello

I `d like to hear some ideas from you on what path to choose for my car.

Well from the start.
It`s `89 Formula 305 TBI automatic 2,73 gears no limited slip
ported, polished heads, enlarged intake and exhaust ports
`91 corvette l98 cam
1.6 crane rocker arms
comp cams valve springs
comp cams timing chain set
hypertech power chip
hypertech 160F thermostat
k&N open airfilter
Edelbrock TES headers
cutom 2,75" exhaust

Right now I`m in process of converting to TPI injection. Is it a good move? Second I`m looking for some good rear end with disc brakes and limited slip and of course good gears. What gear selection would you recommend?

My goal is to have at least 275 hp enough to hang with stock lt1`s and I want this car to be streetable and I want to stick with the 305. What are your suggestions, power adder, heads, gears, suspension etc I`d like to hear it.

the car now times 15,5 on quarter mile , stock times for TBI are some 17`s as far as I know, am I wrong?

Regards
Marcin

We have different conditions . Camaro 4th gen with SLP CAI made 14,5 ET , some other 4 gens are making high 14`s here it`s a different measure. Other TBI with T5 manual for instance made 17`s here.

Re: Ideas for my Formula

Little confused, You put a smily next to your 305 "HO" and a frown by your 700r4?? And why is a t-stat considered a mod anyways??? :endminirant:

1. Dump the 305 and the TBI for a 350-400ci
2. Get rid of the open air filter, your sucking hot air from the radiator
3. TPI is not a performance induction system, goto lt1intake.com or buy a HSR
4. Gears 3.42s are a good all round gear. Limited slip will help
5. Nitrous is fun, adictive, and expencive, but it works!
6. At least, get LCA relocation brackets, so you can adjust your instant center.
7. Did someone tell you they are l98 heads? do you have the asting numbers?? Who ported them, did you see the work done?

Hello

I put smiley`s because it is considerably faster than stock L03 , which have been tested many times. I don`t like th700 it is weak needs upgrades and I want manual

Is there anyone that can provide info how an lt1 intaker performs on a 305?
I don`t want to get rid of 305 `cause I want to keep the car this way, I do not want a killer car. My second f-body willl be ls1 and I want this Formula as 305 with around 275 hp.
Yes I was thinking about nitrous , but are there any other ways?
The heads are stock , and I have seen the work done, nothing wrong with it,but you mentioned L98 aluminium heads. Is installing them a good idea? I think that comp ratio will be lower and performance too since the combustion chamber is bigger, or am I wrong?

PS: Nice Formula you got there

Thanks for posting

Regards
Marcin

hello fellow member!
TBI heads are junk and getting them ported was a waste of money
for the LT1 intake results go
here
I'm afraid the results for a 305 won't be that good
3.42 gears with posi will make a good difference
I read a lot of times about a hypertech power chip being a junk if I were you I'd burn my own chip or ask sb who can do it for me
anyway you should seek information before you start throwing your money around

Hello
Fellow member

The results you posted were for 350 not 305, I`m afraid that I might loose some torque in lower rpm which I do not want.

Well I do not agree about heads, there have been much done to them, still the price was way lower than buing new heads, your heads -> 305 tpi are junk too as far as I know. The hypertech is one of few things left by bad tuner I wouldn`t buy it second time, especially if I`m going to tpi! As for the heads can someone recommend something good for 305 matching my cam and rocker arms?

Oh and remember that I beat your 305 tpi with T5 3,42 `s and other goodies last year Twice! Whereas you threw your money around on rebuilding your engine, now you have done it second time! Hopefully with better results than last time. And you followed in my steps - corvette cam, head work done etc. Why didn`t you go for 350 or aftermarket heads? Why throwing money around? Oh and don`t forget I have TBI and 2,73 no posi

Any other constructive ideas?

Well as far as I know I raced you after that rebuild by Szymon performance! And how can U tell my car does not need rebuild? I bought it used and I do not know how the factory new car performs.

But this is not the place for insults but for suggestions and since I beat U twice I think my car deserves a little appreciation from you, especially since it`s a TBI not TPI, you pround TPI owners sometimes forget that injection is not what makes a car fast. I made some modifications and it`s stupid to say my car is slower than a stock 305 TPI which you keep repeating. Take it as a fact.
EOT from my side.

PS: The only time I lost to 3rd gen was 3 years ago when my car was stock and I lost to a `91 GTA 350 with 3,42 positraction.

Regards
Still waiting for suggestions from board members.
