Chances are your oil pressure sending unit is bad and your oil pressure is fine.

Not too hard, you unscrew the sender in the side of the block from underneath and screw the new one in with thread sealer.

Re: oil pressure dropping when stopped?
My 305's unit was top right side of block next to the dist. As is on my current motor (Pre 85 block) Maybe later model is diff? Mine was an 87 LB9. After replacement I had a better reading, but still low. Car had a bad gauge. Found this out by hooking up an aftermarket piece. Good luck...

If you're using a cheap FRAM filter, you might want to try changing that first.

Re: oil pressure dropping when stopped?
you have probably already checked but are you using the correct guage to check the oil level? it sounds like there is not enough oil and when you hit the breaks its sloshing around giving a low reading.
yes, that is what happened to me once because im an idiot and did not check to see it was low after an oil change.
the oil can have lost some viscosity because the wrong oil was used or its just old.
i would check those before i started pulling parts off.

Re: oil pressure dropping when stopped?
Has the engine ever been rebuilt? Lower end ever been serviced? You might be losing oil pressure when the car idles due to the rotating assembly's age. It also could be the oil sending unit. It should be located above your oil filter, but I warn you now your going to want to buy the 12 dollar socket to make removal a snap. It's similar to the O2 sensor removal socket and trust me when I tell you IT HELPS ALOT. The sensor itself is 30 or so dollars. Try changing it and see what your oil pressure does.
