How to test ignition module

I need to know how to test my ignition module and I would like to know symptoms of a bad one. Also, how often do they go out. My car is an 1985 with a 1989 engine and I know it has never been changed. I have an ACCEL Supercoil on the distributor and was wondering where to get new screws to mount it to cap.

Re: How to test ignition module

- symtom - stalls when hot.

There's a procedure using a multimeter I believe. Pull out your haynes, i'm not certain on how to do it on the '89 engine. What kind of engine is this?

Re: How to test ignition module

pull it out and take it to your auto parts house, most all can check it, but if your going to remove it might as well replace it accel module or something like it for a chaep as they are

Re: How to test ignition module

pull it out and take it to the auto parts store. They will test it.

The problem with a bad one is imtermitent unless its 100% dead. My buddy Gary just went thru hell 5 of em now. They get hot and die. He will get a NO START issue when Hot.

Let it cool down and starts up fine. will run ok untill it gets hot and starts to break up under load and ont rev past 2k.

If left in part it revs fine.

i have my book with me. and i remember theres no procedure for testing the module. but there is a procedure for testing the coil (even though theyre very vague instructions)

just take it to autozone. i took mine there when i had a stall while hot problem
