Carb? EFI?

Basic distributor is a battery hot to the main power wire and accessory or switched power to power up the ignition. Starter is just power and ground and when a jumper wire is put to the solenoid, the engine will crank over.

What brand of test stand are you using? Most come with basic hook-up instructions to cover just about any engine setup.

Before any wires are discussed , one very important thing needs clarification first ;

If this engine isn't bolted into a car , we are talking an actual , purpose built engine TEST stand , yes ? As in , a fairly expensive bit of hardware specifically built for starting a car engine without a car , VS an engine stand built for simply holding an engine up off of the floor ?

I'll post two pictures here , the difference will be obvious . If you have what I've pictured in my first picture post up some pictures of it and then we'll talk further . If you have what's in my second picture , your on your own ........

I know how to run a carb motor but how about a L98 with tpi? How would I hook this up to test ? Always wondered.

You don't need a runup stand to fire up an engine. An engine stand will depend if there's enough room for a flexplate/flywheel.

I had an engine supported with 2 jackstands sitting on the floor and fired it up for a buyer to see and hear it running. Just used a jerry can for a fuel source. It's not like you're running it up for any length of time where a cooling system is required.

Something with EFI would have to have all the sensors and ECM hooked up. Just need to make sure everything has the proper power and grounds.

Yes thank you so much I just can’t figure out the wireing from the coil to the battery. Do have to turn the plug to a pigtail then go to the battery
