Another accord
Last night I was in Palmdale and i was going out to get dinner for me and a bunch of friends. anyway, im not too familiar with the area and as i came up to the McDonalds that i was going to, i came to a stop light and realized i needed t get over to the right one lane, and as I looked back to see if there were a lot of cars behind me, i noticed a riced out late 80's style accord next to me. I didnt want to race since i was just running an errand, but as the light for the other side of traffic turned yellow, i hear his little fart pipe light up and his car lunges forward really fast and is dead even with me at the stop, then im thinking, comeon *******, i dont wanna race, and as the light turns green i take off a little quick to try to get behind the accord.(while staying infront of all the cars behind the accord) so i can get in the parking lot but the idiot slows down, then thows some revs, then i tell my friend to hold on cause he was messing with the radio and im thinking, man this guy is asking for it, then i floor it and walk past the stupid accord, and my friend is laughing his head off. As we pull in to the parking lot, the accord follows, and as I park, i notice there are quite a few modded imports in the lot. and i see the two guys that were in the accord following my friend and i into the McDonalds, then the driver, a big mexican guy comes up to me and says, "what you got under the hood", i told him a stock 305 and he says "BS, let me see your motor, so im like fine and i give my friend the money to order and head out to my car by myself and i pop the hood for the guy, then he starts lookin at my motor and says "thats way too big to be a 305" and im like uhhhhhhhhhhhhh "well thats what it is" then the guys calls over all the other guys that were with him in the lot, and about 6 more big mexican guys come and stand around me. About that time, i was feeling pretty stupid for going out there alone and i thought this might be pretty bad. Then the guy that was in the accord says "where is your NOS" and i told him i didnt have any, and without even asking starts reachin around my car and under the seat and sticking his head inside looking around. Finally my friend comes out and i say, good race, but i gotta go and as we are getting in the car he says whatever u F'ing liar and i get out of there as fast as I could, happy that nothing happened.
Sorry about the long post but i had to post this because nothing like this has ever happened to me, and because i couldnt believe how stupid, and pissed off someone could be just because of one little race.

That is the unfortunate life of the inferior racer. They lose, they get mad.
PS, the import guy prob thought you meant 305 CC, not the 305 CID. (while I am not sure if there is a 305 CC motor, he didn't sound very smart anyhow.)

Then he would be even more of a moron.
He was pretty gay, though. I mean, he was driving a 2.2 Liter 4 cylinder, what's the difference to him?
I'm glad nothing happened to you. You have to keep situational awareness about you. If a guy isn't reasonable enough to listen to what you tell him, 90% of the time it isn't even worth it to pop the hood for him. The only place I'll always show them is at the track.

oh yea, i forgot to mention, im only 16, and the guys looked to be in their 20's, and the only reason i popped the hood was because he was acting really suprised at first. then after he saw the engine is when he got mad. so, i guess i learned my lesson, and if something else happens like that ever again, im not gonna pop the hood, seeing as thats what set the guy off.

well some people are really idiots that don't know what they're talking about sometimes. take my friend for example, he thinks that if a 350 is bored .30 over that its a 383 stroker... lol. some people

apparently that guy doesnt know what makes displacement in a engine. The difference visually from a 305 to a 396 is practicly nothing... think the balancer is a little lower but most ppl wont notice that. Since you cant see Bore and Stroke from the outside of an engine this guy sounds like he has no idea. And him looking for Nitrous is funny. there is plenty of places you could hide a bottle, but who would waste money like that on a stop light race??? ohh well, some ppl just show how stupid they can be with out trying much.

Yes, the 396 is a big block.
But alot of people have been
making small block strokers with
396 cubes.
Some have even been toying
around with a small block 454!
Can you say, High compression!

As far as the 454 goes, it was in article I read
in a Super Chevy magazine. I'll look for it
tonight and give you more info.
I believe they talked about using a aftermarket block.
Like a Bill Mitchell 415 small block.
There is a factory 400 small block that
general motors made in the 70's and 80's.
I don't know if the 396 stroker kit uses.
the 400 block or the 350.
I know a 377 stroker uses the 400 small block
with a 350 crank shaft (high reving).
And of course the 383 uses the 350 small block with a 400 crank shaft (torque happy).

ok.. The LS1 is not a 350. It is nothing like the small blocks of old. the ling. vette is a 427ci LS1. Its based on the same engine, just sleeved differently. the LS1's real ci is something like 346ci. He must be one of thoes aholes that thing that the 305 is a 6cyl. This is a huge misconception among imports and domestics. the 454 is a 4.25in bore and a 4in stroke. It is from a brand new design. It is now possible to make a 454 sbc. other combos are 357, 388, 402,406, and 434. hope that clears some stuff up

Well to any small or big block owner it should be easy to distinguish an SBC from a BBC... The valve covers are significantly bigger on the BBC...
If I were you I'd have gone through the drive through if he followed me into the parking lot... that guy was too stupid to give a straight answer to... maybe you should have made some **** up... like:
"naww I ain't got naawwwss... see here this is a supercharger" and you could point to the A/C compressor or something...

318? 330? 340? 318 is to big to be a bored out 305.. oh yea 307... maybe thats what is.. 307 is what you get after they made all thoes 302's 283 blockwith a 350's crank=307.... and then you have the 301. 318 could be a 307 bored? but 318 is more of a mopar motor then GM. 340 is a ford?, and 330? no idea on that one...

And if you are thinking... a 350 over .030 with a 4.00 in crank..thats 408ci...
396 is a 4.10 bore with a 3.75in stroke. that gets you 396.

Isn't the 301 a pontiac engine and the 307 an olds engine?
I'm pretty sure about the 340... I sold my 305 to a friend and he told me he got it bored and it's now going to be a 340..

im 99% sure that there was no 307 engine in the first gens. maybe late in 69, but i highly doubt it. 307's could be found in 2nd gens and other 70's era muscle cars. My friends Chevelle has a 307. 307 is a GM motor. It used the 283's block with a 350's stroke. where as the 302 used a 350(327) block and a 283's stroke.. 4in bore* 3in stroke=302 hi-rev'n, tire smokin ci's! i wish chevy stuck with that motor. how cool would it have been. 302 or a 350 in a thirdgen.

for the RX-7 piston thing... there is one on ebay right now with a Z28 motor in it i think. friend was telling me about it and havent checked it out myself yet. And about the 396 i think it was a 3.8** somthing stroke and a 4.030 bore? i'll ask my neighbor next time he's around what it was. He has a different engine in it now, think it's a 388 (forgot the stroke, but only 30 over bore) where as my new engine will be a 388 also but have a 4.060 bore and 3.75 stroke.

I also have a video on Kazaa of an rx7 with an LS1 swapped in it running 11's. Just goes to show you what happens when you drop a powerful engine in a light car.

A 383 is .30 over 3.75 stroke.
I believe a 396 is .30 over 3.875 stroke.
The sbc with 454, 427, etc. Was made by taking a race block sanse water jackets and boring the **** out of it. You then need expensive pistons, crank, the whole deal.
By the way I would of asked that guy if he'd been to the local track. Maybe he'd then get to see some cars running nitrous. Or just say you've got to get home because your on parole or something.

I'm not really a huge fan of street racing myself. I find it's funner and more accurate at the track. Plus you don't have the risk of the cops around.
