I thought 03 Cobras were fast?

Alright, last night I am driving home from the movies w/ my girlfriend in her 98 trans am . It has ws6 exhaust and ram air with open element K&N , and a power progammer. The first time I ever took it to a track it ran a 13.0 . So anyways I am driving down a back road when I see these lights comin up on me real fast and this cobra pulls up next to me I look over at him and as soon as I do he takes off before I even think about it and he leaves me .I catch up with him at the light and I rev the engine . It turns green and we take off or at least I did he just sat there melting his tires. So then we hit another light and we go again this time we both grip and take off we stay neck and neck until about 110, and then I let off to about 55 and he does the same. I give him a nod and we both drop it a gear and take off , and I leave him by about two links. My friend said these things run mid 12's and I saw one at the track that ran 12.9's,I gotta say i wasnt impressed when I have only put a few bolt ons in my girlfriends car and he didnt murder me , thats sad .There was so much hype about them and now I dont see why. Sorry for making this so long guys.

They run around 12.8 stock. Throw on a bigger pulley and some slicks and you have an 11 second car...and that's without updating that HUGELY RESTRICTIVE exhaust Ford put on them to compensate for the supercharger.

Great kill!!!

LS1's are no slouches either. You said the T/A ran 13.0, what MPH?

I believe a lightly modded LS1 can do that to a completely stock 03 Cobra. I've seen some vids of 03 Cobras running 13.1 @ 109 MPH. Of course they have the potential for 12's, and probably should run 12's with a good driver, but so do lightly modded, and some stock LS1's.

They should make you go through some sort of driving school before you buy one of those things, its just too nice a car to waste on a crappy driver.

The car itself is TOO fast to waste on a crappy driver. Its too damn fast and I can't wait for the stories of how people who can't handle the car will trash it because they don't understand, or realise exactly how FAST the car is.

Thats what I was thinking ,but I think the car was an automatic, because when I looked over at him he had his right hand on the wheel and his left elbow propped up on the door, I dont know for sure but thats just what I figured , but still they have 390 hp Know my girlfriends T/A isnt pushin anywhere near that.Still he should have beat me so I am going to say it was because of a crapy driver.

I bet her T/A is closer to 390 HP at the crank than you think. What MPH did it run in the 1/4? Mine ran 109 MPH, so I'm guessing close to 370 HP at the crank with the few mods I have. That's based off a guess of a 3600 lbs car with me in it (280 lbs). Looks as if she has close to the same mods I have (intake track stuff and catback), but I'm guessing she has done some tuning since you listed the power programmer.

Late model Cobras never came with autos. I doubted it was an 03. Probably a 99-02. And now not even a Cobra? If you raced a true 03 Cobra you would have surely noticed the blower whine.

Oh it was definetely an 03 and yeah I heard the blower , especially when we both drop a gear at the same time , i figured it was a stick due to his horrible take off , he must have just had his arms in that postition the very second I looked over at him. I am 100% SURE it was an 03.

The majority of the 03 cobra's i've seen run at atco have all been right at the 13.0-2 mark at 109-112. Traction woes galore.

Big thumbs up to that IRS suspension

Yeah its actually not that hard to find a girl with a T/A where I live ,but I pretty much got the car for her , she used to have an eclipse but I saw that it had frame damage and went to the dealer where she baught and threatened to sue them , and they happened to have a T/A on the lot when I went up there so they settled on giving me that instead, and its not a ws6 I bought the ws6 ram air and exhaust dirt cheap off of a friend and put it on .
