91 Camaro vs. 91 Firebird
Ok so my younger brother wants to race and i wanted to see if anyone had predictions or advice. My car is a 91 Camaro z28 with a 350 TPI, its an automatic. My brothers car is a 91 Firebird with a 305 TBI, its also automatic. We are going to race in drive first then we are both going to manually shift. Please give predictions/advice for both races.

The Z28 will always win. 245hp in the 350 TPI as opposed to the 170hp of the 305 TBI - no need to even prove/disprove - just an excuse to get a ticket.

Yeah ive been telling him the z28 has a bigger engine and more hp but hes that his cars design is more airodynamic and meant for speed.

The Camaro should be a high 14sec car. I know for a fact a stock 305tbi auto will run someware in the low 16sec range.

Re: 91 Camaro vs. 91 Firebird
ok thanks for the info. would it make a difference if he manually shifted and i just stayed in drive or would it be the same outcome? if i get enough info to prove him wrong i wont have to risk messing up my car to race him or maybe he will still want to race, either way. thanks

Re: 91 Camaro vs. 91 Firebird
The 305tbi has a "peanut" cam. That same cam is in my car. It makes peak horsepower at 4000rpm. Manually shifting a 700r4 will only have an effect if you're trying to DELAY the shifts otherwise it'll shift around 5000rpm so it will either not make a difference or make him slower if he shifted. Also, in case he wants to take it to the highway hoping his better aero will get you his car has a speed limiter, yours dosn't.

Agreed 100% with rest of above posts ^^
350>305 stock for stock anyday.
Any of you two have anything done to the cars?

If his car had a t5 tranny and 3:73 gears and had perfect firm shifts he would hang with you all day long.

Car: currently a 91 G92.
Engine: 305TPI
Transmission: Borg Warner WC 5 speed
Axle/Gears: 3.42
Re: 91 Camaro vs. 91 Firebird
Save your gas and don't even bother. If his car was a 305 TPI 5 speed it would be a different story and a good race. The 305 TBI in stock form doesn't have a chance. You should give him a head start if you end up racing him. It's the only way it would be fair.
