My Camaro vs. 95 Trans Am LTI 6-Speed

All my mods are in the sig. I ran a 14.1 best on Mickey Thompson ET Street slicks. My friend with the Trans Am ran a 14.2 best time. His is stock except for a K&N fuel injection performance kit. But, now he is getting 4.10 gears to replace his current 3.42 gears. He was just shifting into 4th gear as he crossed the line. Are the 4.10 gears going to put his car in front of mine? Anything I can do real quick to my car? Thanks.

I sprayed 150 HP on my 88 Vette from 150,000 miles on up til I sold it at 250,000. I beat it like a rental car trying to blow it up so I could make it faster. Never happened.

Just gotta know how/when to use NOS.

As far as the 4.10s with a LT1, better put some grease down in his lane, cause it'll be over in the first 60 feet if he hooks up and launches his car correctly.

Seriously dude, don't be afraid of MOS. All the bad stuff that happened to peoples engines happened 20 years ago when N2O technology wasn't as advanced. Now its rare for someone to trash a motor on NOS unless they misssed a shift with a stick trans, or over rev the motor or the fuel pump ****s on them.

Don't be scared....

I think you need a dyno to get your car dialed in. It should go mid 13's on that combo easy.

I would seem to think that the 4.10 gears will hurt him. On the 3.42 gears, he was spinning his tires for the first 60'. Won't he do it more with 4.10s? Thanks.

I agree, 4.10s seem excessive for the car. I knew a guy with a 96 TA who put in 3.73s and went back to 3.42s a couple weeks later.

There is this guy in the car club I belong to and he has a 96 LT1 convertible with 4.10's in it. I think he had headers and exhaust, K&N and CAI.
He ran 13.6X.
You'll get him out of the gate but come 2nd gear he'll pass you.
Like the others said NOS is the only QUICK fix you can do.

Good Luck!

I think that the 4.10s will hurt his times because the LT1s made good low end torque and those gears will just keep him away from the torque

If he is using the stock radials he will get a worse 60' and hence a worse 1/4.If he can hook up,the 4.10's can knock off about 2-3tenths or more with some engine and intake mods.As for what you can do to your car, judgeing buy your less than average MPH,you have a mismatch of components,IE your cam is outflowing the stock heads and the stock TPI is choking your 355.For a quick increase in some breathing,I would put on some ported SLP runners, port your plenum,(if you haven't already)and install an SLP or homemade ram air.Later port your intake and put on some ported corvette aluminum heads. That should give you times where you should be running(atleast low 13's)
