im not sure what engine an 98' has, but i know the later civics had a 1.8L, and with the 5 speed could run high 15s stock. A friend of mine has a 2000 civic 5 speed with exhaust and a cold air intake and ran a best of 15.8. You shouldnt have a problem with him.

Not to mention it take's a hell of a driver to take one of those off the line. They have no torque, so you have to wind them up, and front wheel drive mean's he'll just spin for a loooooong time. My car run's 15.5's and I don't have too much trouble consistantly spanking my friends modded Integra GSR.

your friend needs to learn how to drive then
those things put down mid 15 second runs with a driver behind them
modded I have seen them pulling mid to high 14's
though granted I couldn't launch one myself but I can't drive a FWD car very well

dude, you've got nothin to worry about. while i haven't actually had a real race with one, a guy was tryin to pass me in around that year one and we were on about a 35 mph roll and if it hadn't been for oncoming traffic i wouldn't have backed off, i was only goin bout 55 and he was dead even with me and i didn't start accelerating till he was about 2 car length's infront of me, and i dont have any mods on my stock 305 tbi. unless ur friend does a lot of work to that car i wouldn't even worry bout him.

Those things are impossible to launch off the line without those special springs. You should rape him off the line and then just stay ahead of him and your golden. He'll more than likely spin his tires alot, while your burnin him. Don't worry you got him.

ok, to clear this up, since 921le lives in canada, their civic si is the same as the ex here in the states. (their SiR model is the same as our Si version, but they didn't introduce the b16 dohc motor in the civic until 1999- that motor is rated at 160 hp)
it has a 1.6 liter sohc vtec (not the dohc) and is rated at 127 hp and like 106 tq.
unless he has killer mods, like nos, you will hand him his a$$.
and even if he did have a b16 motor you should still win.
i have seen the b16 take out some mustangs and camaros, but the civic was modded si's and the mustangs/camaros were stock mostly, or only had a few mods
good luck, but you won't need it!
