started gear/posi swap and header swap

i had a chance to get my car into my best buddies father's shop and get started on installing my posi and 4.11s and swapping my flowtech shorties for hedman long tubes. he is a great guy and lets me use his hoist and what tools i dont have. i got the rear end drained and all ready for the new parts. i also got the old headers off.

tomorrow, he is gonna help install the new gears and posi, cause i really dont have any iddea how to setup the new gears properly. i cant wait to test out the new stuff at the track.

i am thinking i may upgrade to some drag radials or some M/T ET streets or ET drags. any thoughts on which a better? for the drag radials, the word seems to be that nittos last longer than the BFGs, but the BFGs hook better. as for the M/Ts....anyone know how much better the ET drags hook than the ET streets?

i dont mind swapping tires at the track, but i suppose swapping the tires at home right before heading to the track would eliminate having to take a jack and another set of tires to the track.

any info on the tire situation would be great.

well tonight i got the headers in. thank *** i had a hoist to use. with the plugs out, the drivers side goes in from the bottom with alittle twisting and encouragement and of course some swearing.

the drivers side is a whole different matter. get the plugs and wires out and way and then remove the starter and the belly pan/inspection pan (the pan the covers the flexplate and torque) converter. with this done, it is now somewhat possible to put the header in from the top. this will take alot of encouragement and a hell of alot of cursing. once you get it set in there, put the starter back on while you have a chance, because you wont be able to with the header bolted up. i had to clearance the edge of the starter around the outside bolt so that the header would sit in properly and allow me to bolt the header up. spark plug access is okay as long as you have an offset wrench, and i have the large 13/16 plugs.

If you're going to swap tires at the track I'd go with the ET Streets. No real advantage to going with the Drags. The streets are plenty sticky. And if you're runnin at Sparta you know you need all the help you can get hooking up (especially with the 4.11's).

I have run Nitto's and can't consistenly hook with them. I've only been once with the streets and there is no problems.
I have 26x11.5x16 but probably could have gone with the 10.5's.

thanks for the help, Bob. what did those ET streets set you back? i would imagine the 15 inch ones are slightly cheaper.

Yeah, I think the 15's are a bit cheaper. Mine were $400 US installed at Discount tire in Detroit.

If you're using the 15x7 camaro wheels I think I would use the 10.5's. The 11.5's might be too wide.

No problem.
Not sure if you're near a US border.
I avoided all taxes by bringing over my rims with me and having the tires mounted over in the US. Came back across and told them I went to the strip. No problems. Saved me almost $100 tax (15% on Can$ value).

well gentlemen, i have a huge dumbass grin on face today, let me tell you.

i finished the mods on my car last night. feels great to be driving her again.

also........4.11s and a posi are (ala Will Ferril in Old School) AWESOME

anyway....the car is a blast to drive, plus i picked up a few ponies, via the long tubes and the addition of an h-pipe to my existing dual exhaust.
