TPI & LT1 throttle bodies

What is the difference between the LT1 and TPI throttle bodies?

Cosmeticlly to the unexperienced eye they appear to be the same.

Thanks for any information,

As far as I know, the only difference is that the LT1 throttle body does not have the provision for a TV cable. The LT1 cars had electronically controlled transmissions.

The throttle cable connection is different and the LT1 TPS is not slotted to allow adjustment. The idle air passages are also slightly different between the TB and plenums.

Jza,
Did you imply that an LT1 could be fitted with a 700R4 or are you implying that an LT1 throttle body can be fitted on a tpi setup?

Throttle position sensor has a different connector, and they're not interchangable between the two types. Cover plate bolt spacing is different, and the LT1 '93 TB's do have the TV cable attachment point since '93 was the only year the F-body was offered with a non-electronically controlled transmission. I would reccomend making an adapter harness if you were to use the LT1 TB...order the connectors from a place like year one, or get a male triangulated 3-pin TPS connector, and a female straight 3 pin weatherpack connector. That way you lengthen the harness if you need to (LT1 intake, etc.)as well as add more of a place to set your TPS and not butcher your TPI harness. Only question is what the TPS is set at on a 4thgen Z. I think it's the same.

They will bolt on but are missing a few things, the vacumme port on the bottom is missing from the LT1 and of course the TPS is different. but the purpose and function of the LT1 TPS is identical to the TPIs the base is .45 and WOT is 5 vdc just as it is on the TPI. Use a 92 (vette only) or 93 Auto T/B soas to have the 700s cable hook-ups. the IAC is the same.

As far as I can tell the connector is identical, I'll have to look over the wiring diagrams to see if they are the same creatures though. I do know that both IACs look identical and the TPI one will screw into the LT1 T/B (have both).
