zz9 cam and only 9inchs of vac

hi all im having a problem with my pcv not working right. my zz9 cam is only letting me pull 9inchs of vac and i belive my pcv is not opening up at idle from the lack of vac. my pass side valve cover has a breather on it cause the the hose that runs from it to the tb keeps getting clogged with oil and gunking my tb.

anyway im tired of smelling all the oil vapors inside my car at a every stop from the the vapors making its way to the cowl is there a way to fix this problem do they make a pcv vavle that opens at such a low vac???

much thx if u can figure this out for me

The breather is your problem. I would put the stock breather, and PCV system back the way it was. MAF cars do not handle air leaks besides the PCV valve too kindly.

Does you valve covers have the correct baffles under them? If not, that may explain the oil coming through.

I doubt it is the cam. I used to run a ZZ9 cam in my old 355, and never had a low vacuum problem.

Also, I PMed you.

but if i put the pass side stock breather tube on, the oil vapors get into my tb and gunk it up cause the pcv won't open at idle.

on the vac side of things, i pulled 9 inchs of vac on my old zz4 cam also the only time everything (ie brakes and pcv) worked right is when it still had the stock l98 cam.

There is something else wrong with your car. The ZZ-9 cam should pull at least 15" of vacuum at idle. I used to run the zz-9 cam and it idled very smooth at 750 RPM with 15+" of vacuum. My current cam is the ZZ-409 and it still idles with 13" of vacuum at 800 RPM.

I would check your timing, idle RPM, and hook up the stock breather. If the system is working as designed the stock breather will allow clean filtered air into the engine at high vacuum when the PCV is drawing vapor out. The breather will allow vapor out at low vacuum (WOT) conditions and allow it to enter the throttle body and be burned.

I would check your timing,
Including valve timing. You may need to check with a degree wheel to make sure you didn't get one of "those" cams or timing sprockets.

Would not be the first time a TPIS cam was "off a bit".

When you check your timing make sure the timing advance connector (mounted on the firewall) is disconected.
