stronger 5 speed?

Does the Tremec 5 speed swap right in place of the WC T-5, with out any modifications? If not, does anything? If so, what are the mods? I need to put more power to the ground, and I don't want to go through trannys weekly.

tremec TKO will work perfect. You will need shim your crossmember i believe as well as get a new driveshaft yoke, but other than that its a simple swap. Oh yeah, and a new shifter.

go to Forte's parts connection, speak to Mike Forte. He sells the TKO with everything you will need. It will take a bout a full day with a helper to do the install. I did mine a few months ago, if you need any specific info just email me.

he has the:
speedo gears
drive adapter
crosmember shimming kit
yoke
spicer u joint
syncromesh fluid
etc

http://www.fortesparts.com/tremec/tr3550.html

Mike's a great guy, very knowledgeable and helpful. I had my tranny in 3 days.

i believe it was 2300 delivered with all i listed above

t56 costs about the same, but you need to cut the DS and i'm not sure about whats involved with the clutch setup.

TKO is good to abou 500ft lbs ( i hear of people running 10's on them)

t56 about 400 maybe 450, but it depends on the ratio spread

Unless your getting an aftermarket T56 you do not need to cut the driveshaft.

How do you like the TKO?
How’s the shifting, I have heard that it is a little notchie.
How’s the jump from 1st to 2nd, they could have moved the ratios closer together.

I am thinking about getting one for my car.

i am a little dissapointed in the ratio spread, but i did choose it for the low first gear, my fault really. Its not really a problem though because my motor is so torquey. In fact its not much different than a T5, 3.27 first to 3.06 first. I avoided the T56 because the ones with the 3.0 first gear ratios were weaker than the ones with 2.6 or so to one first gear ratios. I didn't want to have to change my rear gears anytime soon ( 3.27 9 bolt). Also the really strong t56 has a lower 6th and 5th so i was afraid i would turn too much rpm on the highway. the early ( weaker ones) have .7 5th and .5 6th

all in all i love it. i had the T5 before this one and i swear i could feel it wind up like a torsion bar. i had a hurst shifter in th T5 too

the Tremec comes with a tremec shifter that is of much higher quality than the stock T5 but probably a little longish in the throw compared to the hurst. Shift quality is excelent, with the exception that its a little easy to grinf reverse when going from 5-4 nothing major it just surprises you once you get lazy. only happens once or twice though.

I would highly reccomend it. i figure i'm hitting it with about 400 ft lbs and no somuch as a wimper, besides i'm not afraid of fragging tranny's any more
