Wanna rebuild 700r4 with shift kit...

I am low on cash but my tranny needs a rebuild it only has first gear. I also want to add a shift kit, i wish i could go with transgo as it is what everyone reccomends but I have found this and think it might be a good solution. So yea...is this any good? If not Please tell me any suggestions. My budget is $270( i have a friend doing the labor for me).

Re: Wanna rebuild 700r4 with shift kit...

That is a decent kit if your budget is limited. The shift kit is included so that will save some money. If you go this route just keep in mind that some of your hard parts may be damaged and this kit doesn't replace any of them. You are also going to want a new or rebuilt torque converter and don't forget to flush your factory cooler while the trans is out. And add an additional cooler for added tranny life.

Re: Wanna rebuild 700r4 with shift kit...

I have a local shop that will give me a high performance overhaul kit and a transgo shift kit, both separate items but for a combines price of about $175. Im not sure what transgo shift kit it is but the kit itself is $90. I am thinking of going with that. How much would a rebuilt torque converter run for?

Re: Wanna rebuild 700r4 with shift kit...

i highly recomend tci's rebuild kit, i did the upgraded performance kit, larger servo's an 1800 stall converter from them and a stronger reaction sun shell since i cracked it and was missing 2 gears.. i also did the firmest shift for the shift kit from them and the thing is like gold been running it for over a year now

Re: Wanna rebuild 700r4 with shift kit...

Ok so i went with the Trans=go junior shift kit. I have yet to know whether I am happy with it or not because the tranny is still being built. The overhaul kit and shift kit was $130 but it turns out i had to waist another $140 in clutch gears and a **** load of internal parts that the owner before really burnt up. So I have wasted about $300+ on this tranny its pretty much gonna be new on the inside...oh and i got a high stall converter...guy said it should be around 2400-2500 stall, im happy with that.

Re: Wanna rebuild 700r4 with shift kit...

No overhaul kit is just gaskets and little seals the things that NORMALLY wear out on the tranny but this tranny was SUPER BLOWN! lol and no the shift kit and the overhaul kit was $130...i got the hook up

Re: Wanna rebuild 700r4 with shift kit...

Ok..
The gaskets and seals is no rebuild for me its just.. I dont know.. "I want to look inside" kit
For me normal rebuild kit has the clutches which are normal to change..

And then there are the "true" rebuild kits which include the "hard parts" that usually wear very little or so..

Re: Wanna rebuild 700r4 with shift kit...

Yea thats exactly what i needed to buy extra...the hard parts. Sorry if im a bit underinformed its my auto shop instructor building the tranny he used to specialize in gm trannies so he it like teaching me. Oh and today we found that the check ball for the first gear was missing and the vlve body ws already drilled on the "F" hole...so thats probably why it blew up lol.

Re: Wanna rebuild 700r4 with shift kit...

What I have decided is to buy a kit from Dana's Probuild:
http
;//www.700r4l60e.com/store/product.php?productid=41&cat=19&page=1

which is expensive but have EVERYTHING that wears out. And stronger parts too.
It will allow me to make one, big rebuild and have a lasting transmission for a big while.

Re: Wanna rebuild 700r4 with shift kit...

What i should of done is opened up the tranny before i bought everything....that kit is actually not expensive at all. I have about $320 in the tranny already and still not EVERYTHING is new...that would of been a good investment i think. Well ill learn from it...its my first tranny build and I have learned a lot...an automatic transmission is pretty amazing!

Re: Wanna rebuild 700r4 with shift kit...

Yeah, the price is pretty good.
The "normal" kits goes for about $250 and they dont have the parts that "wear little"..

Like I said - when rebuilding such sick and magicly complicated thing like transmission (that is my opinion - I belive it was invented by alien race, too complicated to be made by human ) it is much, much better to rebuild it once real good to avoid doing it again

Plus this kit is good to 575+ HP and gives you manual 1-2-3 and full automatic function
