Re: help need gears..

''a box'' LOL. Theirs always a smarta$$. Most of these old members get tired of new members asking same old questions. I think its great to get new people here who want to keep these cars alive. There is sticky threads on this web site for common info that your asking for. They are at the top section of all message boards. Here is the one you need= https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tran...-10-bolts.html

Yes, forth gens rear gears will work. s-10 trucks should work as well. Anything that has a 10-bolt with 7.5/7.625 ring gear. I heard of people taking out spider gears and putting mini spools and have no problems(other than turning sharp) for a cheap posi ($100). Be sure not to put bigger tires on it though.

Axle/Gears: 10 bolt 3.23
Re: help need gears..

Count the bolts on the cover to check if it's a 10 bolt or 9 bolt.

If it is actually a 2.73 (different series) like on your profile that could give you more to worry about than just how to find gears.

Re: help need gears..

Just remember that you still have to set the pinion depth, bearing preload and backlash when you put the parts in your rear end. '91 and '95 will both have 28 spline axles, so that's not a problem. The '95 will have the Auburn differential, so if it's worn out you are wasting your time and money. The Auburn can not be rebuilt and if its worn out then it's scrap metal.

Re: help need gears..

And of course by the time you get all done putting those used gears into something else, you will have discovered that the gears themselves are one of the smaller parts of the whole job; not worth using used ones, especially not if you have to buy them.

I totally second big's comments re the Auburn. That's gotta be the crappiest unit, and the crappiest service, in the whole industry.

The ABSOLUTE LAST thing I would put in my rear axle would be a Gov-Bomb such as is in the S trucks. ABSOLUTE LAST. I will take one of those OUT and put in a one-wheel-peel if I have to, just to get rid of it. Out of all possible options, that's the very worst, and should be avoided at all costs.

In a general way, a used 95 rear doesn't put you very much closer to a "nice" rear end. And probably won't have 3.73 gears either.

Car: 1992 Camaro RS 25th Anniversary
Engine: Stock 305 TBI, LT1 soon.
Transmission: V6 NWC T5 by choice
Axle/Gears: Zexel Torsen LSD with 3.23's
Re: help need gears..

I see Torsen diffs on Ebay with gears pretty often. I don't think you'll find one with 3.73's but you never know. Are you absolutely set on 3.73? A 3.42 is a nice alt and more plentiful.
