Where to get the correct VSS for a WC T5 ???

I'm confused. My 91 T5 has a VSS that looks like this:

The only ones I see in the parts stores and online for my year look like this. Which is clearly not going to work. Any help fellas?

The bottom one is for an auto

I might have the one you need, i'll check, they are really rare.

Thanks Don. Lemme know. I see a couple vendors out there have some old stock ones that float around $175-$225. That's a little steep though.

On the same subject. My speedo and tach are working fine but the car is throwing the VSS code every time I drive it. It also smells like it's running a bit rich. Does the VSS work along side the other sensors that adjust fuel/air?

Well I found a replacement (used) and I'm still throwing the code 24. Is there a test procedure that anyone knows about or should I just assume that my ECM/ECU is the problem since it's a 91 T5 Speed Density car???

I'm guessing the speedometer on the dash works?

You'll need to hook up a scan tool and see if the ECM is seeing the correct speed as well.

Speedo works. It even seems accurate when compared to my GPS. Like I mentioned earlier. I've tried two VSS sensors and they both produce the same result (code 24). What scan tool would you recommend?

Re: Where to get the correct VSS for a WC T5 ???

I'd also add that I had my prom flashed to tune out the EGR and AIR components. I mailed it out to harris performance and he did the tune based on my car. I just had the engine rebuilt prior to this, so I really can't pinpoint if it happened after the new prom tune. I just knew that when I had it all apart that I didnt want to bother with all of the emissions crap when putting it all back together. It it possible that could have something to do with my code 24?

Re: Where to get the correct VSS for a WC T5 ???

Another thought. Does anybody know which/what color wires at the ecm are for the VSS. I was thinking I could bypass the harness and splice/wire the VSS directly into the ECM to rule out a short. Just do that and take a drive with the wire(s) run from under the car through the drivers door and into the ECM. Thoughts?
