Just Doing some planning for my Fall Project, What Am I missing Guys?

In the fall, I will buy a beater and finaly get to do some real work to my car, that way I won't be pressed for time and won't have to worry about haveing a car to ride to school/work. I am thinking about exactly what car, maybe a F-body, maybe not, but defiantly GM, but that doesn't matter now...

OK heres a list of what is going to be done performance wise:

- BMR Strut Tower Brace ( TPI Version, requirs Shams)

-------------------------------- SUSPENSION ----------------------------------

- Spohn Anti-Sway Bars
- Spohn Panhard Bar

You wont need the 6AL with an auto, save the $$ & just get the 6A. Not sure if they make a double roller timing chain, will have to investigate. Keep cannister, fuel/emissions reasons. Battery goes where spare used to go. Save up some more $$ for full rocker arms, use the money saved from the 6A & put towards these. New harmonic balancer. Have entire rotating assembly balanced. Forged pistons, look into the web sites given out here, & call P.A.W., they have decent prices. For the headers, when I lived in Arlington, they just did the tail pipe sniff, & did a visual for cat. Your area might be more laid back.

As a celebration of the car completion, take a nice leisurely 4 hr stroll to Ocean City, pop the T-tops off & cruise

OK I finished my Apearance list, I started it at work, and it was time to go...

As far as money goes, I go from paycheck to paycheck, and most of it goes into my car, and I don't have anything to do but plan between paychecks, so I just wanted to see yall's opinions... And see if I forgot anything. A shot of NOS would be nice but this car will be my Daily Driver (Is right now, and will be). After I am finished I want to do a L98 build up.

LONG LIVE THE 60* FOR THERE IS NONE LIKE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love the 60* and I want to keep one in there. I don't want an * in my Daily Driver. I am considering maybe in a year or so getting a 98+ Grand Prix GT with the Supercharged 3.8L 3800 V6 with the SLP GTX Ram Air Packagebut I don't know if I could get a loan that big when I'm only 18 years old. Maybe its only me wishing, but let me dream.

As far as getting something to drive while I work on my 60*, I want to go ahead and get the L98 powered Trans Am, but I would want to mad that too, and I cant afford insurance on two F-Bodies!!!!!!!!! So I'll probally have to get a old Cavalier, Grand Prix, Grand Am, Monte, etc thats under 500 dollars.

As far as funds, I'll be pulling two jobs all summer and not doing anthing with any of the money I am making from now on. Only Gas, and If I NEED to get parts then I will, otherwise, its all going into the savings account. I will defiantly be putting all of my graduation money into mods though, but that is given!!! Any more money I make, is SAVINGS for the Fall.

Also in the fall I'll start school at the local Community collage for Hospitality managment, and I'll have work study so I'm not too busy and I can have a job, so I can also work on my car too! I'll be busy, but that's how I like my life. Things won't change, I do all my work when it's dark outside (hey what's new?) but its all part of the game.

Anywhoo, gimme the details....

yeh i was wondering about the 6A, and whether I needed the REv Limiter anyways...

I want to RELOCATE the Purge, becuase I want the SLP Dual Cold Air intake, and It requires to relocate that purge cannister. I just replaced that d@mn thing a month ago, it cost me $115, af corse I am going to keep it!!!!!

Don't remind me of that d@mn emmisions check, I got to take it in July, and I think I am going to fail unless I can get my Cat to Y-Pipe connection to seal better, but I'll worry about that later...

BTW - What's a Sqap boogie? i heard of the swap boogie, but not a Sqap

I'd love to have all fall to work on my car; I've gotta squeeze it all in the summer months....

For the extra $40, go for the 6AL. You can run the two step rpm module (or the three step) on it. I don't think you can attach a rev limiter to the 6A. Plus, what if the trans slips? I put the 6AL on my car.

Why forged pistons? You know they're $300 extra, right?

Welding the exhaust for security reasons- is exhaust theft big in your area? Weld the tips, maybe...

I don't see you needing the Spohn parts for the rear suspension at all... a V8, yes, but not our V6's. Lakewood (mrgasket.com) makes boxed LCA's for $100 and a track bar (panhard rod) for $100. You could box your stock pieces to save more money, too. I'm sure a welder would weld 'em up for $20. And with the money you save, go get a MIG welder (mine was $300 from Home Depot).

A double roller timing chain is stronger and lasts longer than a stock chain. The rollers reduce friction. The "double" means double chain, which reduces chain stretch, which keeps your timing more accurate over a long period of time. I bought mine (chain, cam sprocket, crank gear) from Summit, made by Cloyes, for $90.

There are Polish taillights for our car? Cool, I'm 1/2 Polish, who makes 'em?

The BMR STB fits our cars?

Don't look to an IROC for a 3.73/posi/disc rear gear, you need to find a Z28. The 3.73 stopped in '85. I grabbed my 3.73/posi/disc from an '84 trans am. If you go to an '82-83 axle, the brakes have standard-thread fittings, all 84-up has metric. Look for all my messages here (and on the suspension/chassis/brakes board) about my "3.73/posi/disc" axle.

Doesn't seem out of the realm for work done to a V6 car; I've done pretty much all the same to mine. (Exclusions being the exterior lights/colors/stripes/etc, some of the interior stuff like the wrapped panels, and the engine rebuild).

Ocean City.. that reminds me; I've gotta go try to grab a hotel at Virginia Beach for this year. (Went to OCMD last year, VB before that, OCMD before that- see the pattern?)

Find yourself a Classic Car and invest in that.
Your Fall project is so expensive.
Slip a 3.4 into your ride and just have some fun!
Spend the saved money elsewhere.

this is why i posted tom, i wanted feedback. Thanxs for the suggestion for rear suspension, i was debating about that... i love to find ways to save money.

This was mostly to get my ideas all in one list so i could see my fualts in my design.

Karl, Why would I want to restorea classic when I could have fun with a thirdgen. IMO, these are the greatest car ever (excluding the C3 Vette)???

I just want to have some fun and have fun working on this car.

OK, so is there anything else guys? Keep this stuff coming, i want to ssave some more money people...

What kind of shape is your interior in? If its worn (and since you're doing appearence mods too) why not throw some new carpeting/4th gen seats in there? If you're doing nothing but making money to put into your car you may as well go all out

BTW, I may have a line up on a tranny for my car(only 40,000 miles on the rebuild) so she may be up and running again soon!!!! After that its time to start doing a lot of the things you are doing to yours

i am doing that, didn't read my list? I getting those with graduation money can't wait, when I got the car, everything, and I mean everything in the interior was sun damaged.

Dash, pad, Steering wheel, seats, carpet, floor mats, console, ****er ****, headliner, dome light, panels, etc... All damaged by the sun. I will have a whole new BLACK interior w/ 4th Gen leather seats. Not sure if I want T/A or Camaro, whichever is the cheapest

Tom,

There is a guy, with a name like Wasam or something like that, has a 3.1 Auto and He had a BMR Stut Tower Brace put over his 3.1. He had to get the TPI version with the center falttened out, but the rest is tubular. He had it professionally installed and they had to put "shams", not sure on thickness, between the Brace and the Mounts on the Strut Towers. I'll get the address for the purchase a little later, i have it bookmarked at home, im at work now.

that paw-lish not pool-lish

Boxed? Wound a tubular design be better becuase the boxed design would have stress on all four corners? Your the expert, you tell me

Did I mention http://www.1aauto.com for the acc carpet? I bought it there for less than what acc's own site sells it for!

I never got the wonderbar installed on my car because of the curving radiator hose; I might hit the junkyards (or buy new!) a radiator for a v8 or 90-92 v6, which doesn't have the lower rad hose in the way.

Tubular is stronger than boxed, boxed is stronger than u-channel. But boxing is usually cheaper; especially if you're boxing your own.

Want to redo the interior cheap(inexpensive), yet good? when you're around dayton, come take a look at my interior. A wife who knows & teaches you how to sew, and Hobby Lobby can do a miraculess job on a worn & blah tan/brown interior.
Also, look for the ever illusive aluminum driveshaft. When going thru the junkyrds, bring a magnet to check for these.

i like the stock one with my Buick shifter ****. It gets the job done right. IMO the mega shifter is ugly, and if I ever got an aftermarket it would be the Hammer shifter.

TomP, yeh you mentioned that in the Body and Interior Forum, and agian, thanx, but I already know... Taht palce is great huh, cant wait to actually buy from there.

So is boxed all we need or would the extra money for tublar really benefit?

Boxed lca's are stronger, especially at the links. Im not talking about box welding your originals, buy a good set of aftermarket arms. The only downside is more unsprung weight, but on a streetcar, who cares. Ive broken to many tubular products in my life. One of them Im lucky to still be here! People who manufacture tubular products should be required to magnaflux there welds!!!!!!!!!!!!! (To mention a name: Chisholm )
