Wow, funky, I just posted a message on this at the body board. Check this seal for shrinkage. On my car, it had shrunk back from years of exposure to the sun. I laid a hose over my roof so water ran onto my hatch window, then crawled inside the car to see where the water was coming from. It was coming from the window, and splattering out by the hood latch. It was also hitting the side panel, then running down the side panel- so it looked like an outer waterstrip problem.

I cut back the original rubber with a razor blade, cutting "in" at the bottom, where it met the glass. Then I filled the void with a $3 tube of Permatex "black silicone" (by the gasket materials), which is meant for weatherstripping. I made a gloppy blob over the whole "run" of the window. Then, when it dried (about a day), I used a razor blade to cut the excess blob in half. I made my cut so that the bottom, where it met the window, was thickest- and the top, near the spoiler panel, was thinnest. Here's the pic (this pencam is great)!

The glass to decklid area would be the best bet. I'm going to replace the entire rear hatch weatherstripping and put a new strip in the area shown by TomP, and put plenty of adheasive in there too.

I'm woking on it.

It somehow just manages to get the bottom of the well wet.

That's where I keep getting confussed, cause I know it anit coming in from the bottom.

And **** whatever. I'll figure it out.

Man it fricken wreaked too. But that Fabreeze car stuff worked pretty good. A couple of treaments, and the smell is mostly gone. Still a little left. MAybe one more fabreeze treatment should take kare of it...

Open the hatch.
See the crack where the tail lights meet the body?
There is is.
That's where my water goes thru.
I don't know how to fix it.
I mean,
It Doesn't Rain in California!
And I'll trade my California life for a Maui Rainbow,
Especially awakening in Hana,
ANY SECOND OF MY LIFE:hail:

It shouldn't come into the body that way, Karl... if water does get into the crack between the taillights and body, it'll just run out the bottom, between the taillights and body. The taillights attach (as ya know) to the body with a few screws/wingnuts; I suppose if you're missing a seal around one, you'd get a bit of a leak via water running down that stud, but I don't see a puddle accumulating.

KJRocks, do what I said above, that will help you find the leak.

Get rid of that scent
IN Hawaii?
SO EASY.
Get a piece of wood, that you can place in back, to keep back hatch open.
Start driving.
The wind/breeze will dry ya so quick....
Tom, not truly sure where waer enters, but, I do see that tail light opening.
I have to replace the back bumper, so I'll find that opening then.
Like I said, it don't rain in California

Yup I'll look into both places. I was thinking of removing all the back panels and carpet. Then just runing the hose on the hatch for about 5-10 mins, I should be able to see where it is coming from then...

I hope....

Mine leaked from in between the glass and the decklid. I ran a line of sillicone across the bottom of the glass and it stopped.

Of course, now I have a *tiny* leak through the weatherstripping. GRRR

Karl, don't you remember "El Nino" back in '98?? I think we had PLENTY rain that year.

I remember the first one.
I lived at Venice Pier and was riding my dirt bike on the Venice Santa Monica beach (night time) dodging the Santa Monica Pier as it was being broken up.
Oh yes, I recall.
I hear it may be a El Nino kinda winter, too

Good Idea. I will do that, and see if it stops. It only seem to happen whn we have lots of rain....
