2.8 Design 1 Or 2???
I am trying to get a rebuild kit for my 2.8 as well as various parts like cam, intake, ect... for my 86 firebird
I see some sites have: 2.8 ford, 2.8 chevy, 2.8, design 1, 2.8 design 2
Know I'm pretty sure that 2.8 ford is not what I want, but what is the design 1 and 2 stuff??
I know s-10's and other cars use 2.8s but is it all the same as far as rebuilding? I also need heads, headers, a cam and intake...any clues?
Where can I find good performance parts for this jewel....
will 3.1 parts fit?
Thanks,
Ron

Ford has 2.9l not 2.8.
Performance parts for your 2.8..... SEARCH
Rebuild kit = Chevy 2.8L
Save money on all of that, drop 3.4 in and do light mods to it, will make more power then a heavier modified 2.8 would.

I got some rebuilt heads with performance springs on them that I don't need if you are interested, and I also have ,a timing chain, gasket set, roller rockers, and a shift kit if you are intersted.
Just PM me, also Pacesetter makes headers for these cars, and yes 3.1L parts will fit on your car.
Just to let you know....
You might want to look into a 3.4L block instead of rebuilding a 2.8 it might be more bang for the buck.

i belive the version 1,2,3 is specific for FWD versions of these engines as they changed head, intake, exhaust designs thru the years.

Pace Setter Exhaust does make street legal headers for the F Body.
Seek out a 3.4 used long block to insert under the hood. 2.8->3.4 Long Block Swap Boogie tech thread is what you are seeking in your search.
It's a very easy yet bloody detailed swap.
85% of your current vehicle motor parts swap right over to the 3.4.
1993-1995 F Body donor cars, ONLY.
$500 tends to be the average cost.
Lower miles of donor 3.4 equal longer driving before the 3.4 rebuild.

Thanks, very informative, I did find the pacesetter headers and might get them through summit racing...little cheaper...free shipping and y-pipe...not sure if pacesetter includes the y-pipe.
anyway, I might have found some replacement heads (mine=14054879)
hard to get info on interchange, rather hard to verify if what is on the net is correct or not. I also read an article that said the 2.8l with 8.9 : 1 ratio could only use cast number heads: 14054879 & 14054884, which doesn't make much sence to me but what the hell.
I did get a level 2 cam and thinking about the level 2 chip...I know it is a waste putting all this in a 2.8 that isn't going to do anything but drive back and forth to work but what the hell I'm retarded so what do I know....lol
Thanks for your help.

If ya really seeking to just touch up what ya got,
I also have a set of reconditioned heads from my 1985 MPFI 2.8
Several new guides, includes a set of valve covers, too.
$125 + shipping.
The headers do include the "Y" pipe.
Finding a 3.4 is an easy upgrade IF ya truly love your car.
The Crane Cam 2030 is the stock cam in the 3.4 mill.
Crane designed the valve train package for GM for that engine.
Do a compression test before ya pull your heads to get a guide of condition of long block.
My swapped 3.4 mills registered 175-200 pounds of compression.
My worn down 2.8 registered a lousy 50!
Latest find of a used 3.4 long block was $650 for a 59,000 mile long block. CHEAP!
