Who has the most modified 2.8?

Just curious to see who has performed the most modifications to your tiny little 2.8...

I'm leaving mine as stock as possible, mainly to keep it running as long as possible, but I also like to keep things original as possible in this car as well.

Just want to see who has thrown stock out the window...

Car is most modified (suspension brakes and drivetrain), but probably not my current 2.8 motor assembly.

I have no bottom end work done to it. Mainly bolt-ons

Motor modifications from stock on the current 2.8 in the car:
*Gutted airboxes and high flow filters.
*Descreened MAF
*62mm billet alum TB
*polished runners -most likely already gunked up again with carbon from the EGR
*Holley adj fuel pressure reg. /running 55psi
*"TB Bypass" for ease of working on the motor
*1.52 roller tip rockers
*175* running temp via a competely built cooling system (BeCool alum rad and fans, 180* therm with drilled rim for flow to relieve air pockets and slightly lower running temp)
*140 Powermaster Alt.
*Underdrive crank pulley
* Taylor Wires and firesleeves
*Hypertech 53,000V Coil heat sheilded underneath (Distributor drilled also under the module for cooling of the AC Delco Ignition Module)
* PF&E stainless steel headers also ceramic coated for heat retention out of the engine bay and increase flow to the rear of the vehicle.
*PF&E y-pipe/ also stainless steel and ceramic coated to retain heat
*Catalytic convertor flanged and removed for running a Dynomax bullet free flow resonator in its place so I can run high fuel pressure (rich) and leaded race fuel when running on a track
*2 1/2" catback into a Flowmaster 80 with only 1.75" dual exits to reduce drone and give a great high rpm sound.

ps- I'm not an autoX freak I have only ran this car twice in two and a half year apart from each time. And, I will probably never again bother until I put a more radical motor into it someday (this will definately happen, just not anytime soon- low on the priority list BECAUSE this is the wifes car that I occationally drive. I have not driven it in over two weeks)

Not "IF" but definately "WHEN" I do build the 3.4 I have and put it into the car it will be built from the crank up with 6" rods, etc. The entire bottomend with custom pistons and all, and hopefully I can keep the compression down on the NA build if I can acquire one of this mysterious Paxton "smog legal" supercharger kits they made back in 1988- then just crank up the pullies and the boost and add race fuel for any competition use, yet keep it on pumpgas for normal daily use.

Depends - modified motor? I'd actually give the nod, myself, to Alan's (AM91_CamaroRS) engine. MASSIVELY modified. Other than the turbo, I don't have much fanciness under my hood

Modified V6 Fbody? Yeah, probably Dean, with his COMPLETELY overwhelmingly modified suspension/brake system

Does swapping out dead 2.8s for 3.4 long blocks, qualify?

No cause then it's not a 2.8, now on the other hand if you took the 3.1 crank and put it in your 2.8 that would be a different story.

Well if you remember most of what is not the 3.4 currently used to be on the 2.8... less the exhaust, headers, & tranny!

So I can say I used to be a front runner for the most modified

So why can't you count 3.4s? We all have the same block, just internally a bit diff... heck if you are only talking 2.8s...

Dowards is a 3.1!...
AM91_CamaroRS is a 3.1 too!

So if you can't count 3.4s, you can't count 3.1s! :P LOL

I thought the subject was about JUST the motor itself, not the drivetrain.

But if you want to know why my 2.8 is fast (for a 2.8V6 that is) its solely due to the drivetrain its bolted to and the highly reduced rotation mass and highly reduce powerloss through a radically buit automatic focused on minimal powertrain loss when built.

Prat of that drivetrain reduction even includes Moser drilled flange axles and a carbon fiber 4 lb driveshaft- much more

But I am not wasting time building the 2.8 block, I will focus on the stronger webbed 3.4 block as a base to machine on, will have the 3.4DIS crank turned down for lightness and balance, 6" Maxilight rods, Ross custom pistons, Supersix heads, Aluminum 1.6 rockers on a compcams .440/.440 (1.5 rocker grind), electric waterpump, alum Fluidamper, portmatched base and middle runners, custom plenum, and hopefully I can get a supercharger kit to work smog legally and stuff some boost into it all and most likely be pushing close to 300 hp when tweaked up and about 250 when not

and Karl, you left that dam bigwheel on my driveway again where my wife almost backed over it, do I have to call your mother?

Well since it's brought back....

I think I'd take the prize for most modified 2.8, since the only original 2.8 parts are the block and the rods.

Quick run down:

Block: 2.8 from 1986 S-10
Crank: 3.31" strok crank from an early '90s genII 3.1
Pistons: Hyperwutectis pistons GenII 3.1 replacment pistons (8.9:1 SCR)
Cam: GMPP (Same as Crane 260-2
Heads As last ran: 1995 3100 (stock valve train, excpet for the genI adjustable rocker studs and genII rockers, with genII pushrods)
Intake as last ran: 1995 3100
Headers: Custom built by me.
Turbo: 1986 Turbo coupe (Manual)
BOV: 1st gen Eclipse
Intercooler: Mitsubishi Starion
Belt set-up: 1987 S-10 for signle belt serpintine set-up.
Ignition: DIS
ECM: 1988 Cavalier Z24, Custom programmed PROM with stock TGP code.

I'm sure there's quite a few other details athat I have missed, but that's the jist of it.
