Here is a good spring option for V-6 cars

I looked forever for a good set of V-6 springs and finally decided to just get some non-engine specific 3rd gen springs and try them out. I used the Springtech set. At first the car was about level and 1/2-1" lower than stock. It wasn't bad. Then I installed the 200lbs of stereo in the back and the back end was about 1/2" lower than the front. So going against traditional wisdom, I cut the front springs one coil each, and here is the result. The car is about as low as I could comfortably drive on the street, it handles great, and I don't have any tire rubbing issues with 235/60/15's

(sorry for the crappy cam-phone pic)

What do you consider a "good" set of springs?

Something that makes the car look good, while still providing better than stock handling. Are there any other definitions?

Oh, okay. Because I have Suspension Techniques springs, meant for the 2.8/3.1 V6, cost me $180 from shox.com two years ago.

I just ignored the naysayers of "You can't use those springs! They are for a V8 application" and bought Eibach Sportlines.

Here is a shot of the '91 RS along with my bone stock '88 Iroc Z, both cars have 245/50/16's on them.

RS corners like a go kart, rides a bit firm- the Iroc with worn out stock parts feels like Grandma's Buick by compraisson.

Iroc is a wee bit faster though

did you cut the sportlines in the front? i was looking at them over the pro's, if i were to go eibach. otherwise id get the st or dropzone springs. although if i can get 4 dropzone's for $115 like doward, thats pretty hard to turn down. i just want some fairly hardcore springs, i dont really give a **** about ride quality. i may just eventually figure out some spring rates and all that gob and just get "custom" springs or something(custom as in not some tailored package deal like eibach "pro" or "sportline").

as long as i can stuff 245/50/16s under it, ill find some way to deal with ground clearance.

Nope, did not cut anything. Left out the rear isolators.

Did you get any grinding noises from the back?

I'd heard of guys slipping pieces of garden hose over the ends of their springs to prevent the metal-on-metal contact when they removed the isolators... I thought of doing that on my front springs, then I saw how thin the stock isolators were and just left them in. (I bought new front isolators)

Tom, if they are I can't hear 'em over the groaning from the poly bushings I put in without greasing. I'll not make that mistake again.
