Does this alternator look like yours?

Hi all.
I am trying to identify an alternator. It was sent from a 3rd gen breakers in Florida, but didn't fit. When I tried to fit it to my 350, the top bracket on the alternator was on the "wrong side", although it fitted the 1991/92 alloy accessory engine brackets.

Here are a couple of photos

Can somebody check their's for me, since I think it must be from a V6. But who knows.
The numbers on it are 1101142 85A and M136D 12V NEG

Thanks.
Andy.

So the case is the same as yours, but the brackets don't line up? Separate the bolts between the two halves and spin the case, then bolt it back together. But if you pull the case halves apart then the brushes will pop out of the alternator and that's a whole different "repair" message

But yeah it kinda looks like mine, but mine is much more dirty...

Plus if that unit was ever rebuilt, the #s on the case don't mean anything.

Common problem but easily cured. You just spin the back case. For as long as I can remember that is the only thing different on most GM alts. Auto places use to do it for ya but not any more. My 108amp alt was like that. you take out the screws and only seperate it enough to spin it around so things line up how you need then. But pry open the case to far and the brushes fall out n it wont work anymore. When I did mine it had been to long since I had done it and of coure it came apart to far, but I was able to return it easy for another. Then was more careful to pry it just enough for the back case to spin around where I needed it. Can't be more careful but its what ya do or gotta do.

Yup, my friend for the life of him couldn't figure out how to get the alt on his suburban. Someone finally told him to spin the case.

Thanks for the replies, BUT,.... have a look at this photo of the problem I encountered about 3 years ago now!! Needless to say I was sent another alternator that did fit. I actually dismantled it to clean it up, and rotated the case, but as you can see, no way would it fit, no matter how many times I rotated it.
I may as well sell this one, but don't actually know what year it is off!

Hey Andy!

I’m not sure but that looks a lot like the one I got on my V6, the pulley for sure does. If you like I’ll try to get some pictures of mine for you if I can get my camera phone working tomorrow.(works when it feels like it!) Failing that if your desperate I’ll bring mine down to you and you can have a look.
Hope the cars are running well, all the best.

Speed.

Will be nice to actually find out what it is from!!

Is your car okay? My black one is sold, now trying to get the red one finished for the summer.

Hi Andy,

I've not been able to get a pic of that alternator of mine (phones packed up!) but I've had a good look at it and can confirm that I'm almost sure you got a V6 alternator.
From what I can see it's upside down in your photos but it's the same as mine. I have another little bracket on mine that might be missing from the V8's, or they might have put it on from when the went from the multi-belt to the single belts. Hope that helps.

My cars fine now (fingers crossed!) thanks, the old girl had a few coughs last week but I'm hoping it's sorted. I thought you got that red Camaro running last year?

Speed.

I wonder if you got a v-belt case when you needed the smaller serpentine-belt case, or vise-versa...

That is a V6 Alternator from a serpentine-equipped 2.8L or 3.1L... It mounts on the passenger side on the V6s.. You won't be able to mount that alternator on a V8 serpentine belt setup, since the mounting pads are in the opposite positions (V8 serp alternators mount on the drivers side).
