Seized up 3.1
Okay so the timing on my 3.1 was way off, so I go buy a light and I start setting up the motor to TDC and I get it all set and I start the car to set the actual timing and as I'm doing it the motor starts running crapy so I figured I had it to restarted, then it dies, I go to start it back up and nothing, just clicks from the battery, so I grab my ratchet and try to turn the motor by hand, and can't even budge it, I check the oil and its full, what would cause this?

Check the plugs and look for bad signs there first, since thats simple to do.
Whats the history on the engine?

Nope, won't even budge, not even by turning it manually, and the plugs are all good, and the motor only has 200,xxx

Re: Seized up 3.1
The battery is at full charge, it was running while I was timing it and the motor jerked around and just stopped, and I'll pull the plugs in the morning and see if it changes anything, and why shouldn't I be turning it at the crank by hand?

Re: Seized up 3.1
Ive used that crank bolt xxx many times and never a issue. Its not like we have 10:1 compression...

Re: Seized up 3.1
The only thing that could strip the threads of the damper crank bolt, is using the bolt to pull the damper onto the crank during installation, due to a reduced amount of engagement of the thread thread, during installation. When the damper is installed, there is a large amount of thread engagement.

Re: Seized up 3.1
Not locked up, was messing with it and turned the key, and it somewhat started up. I guess when I was messing with the timing I set it way retarded and it built up a lot of compression. Dodged a bullet on that.

Re: Seized up 3.1
If the timing is too retarded or advanced, it does not have anything to do with the compression. The valves are still going to let out the air mixture regardless if its ignited correctly or not.

Re: Seized up 3.1
Timing chain jam? It could have a streched chain with 200,000+ miles right?
