If you're getting 7.5" then you're measuring it wrong. Stock 15s are 7.0" Plenty of us, myself included, have measured several sets of stock wheels.

Re: 295/50 R 15 indy 500 on a OE rim :->
The question isn't if it fits but if the center is going to wear faster than the outside as if it is overinflated. I personally really like the looks of the 295/50R15 and have a set of 8 inch wheels I am planning on running. Everything I read basically says 8.5 - 9.0 inch rim width minimum. I was assuming I might be better with 275/60's on them 8 inch wheels.

Well will see about how they ll go...I wanted 255 wide but as u guys know Indy 500 is discontinued ,so that is what was left ..I work at experttire ...we check all the stores ,no 255 ...I will go whit 235/60 r15 in the front a bit later...I think 8 inch weeks will be fine I even mounted one on an 8 inch sorry no pic ...there is something else if I put this tire together whit 245/50r17 they are almost the same shade of wide

Re: 295/50 R 15 indy 500 on a OE rim :->
they are 15x7 wheels, period
the advertised width of the wheel is similar to "trade" sizes for various other parts. its not a exact number. Its the distance between the bead seats of the wheel, not the overall width, the diameter is the same way. measure it, its not 15", closer to 16.
a 7" wheel will typically measure, overall width, around 8", in your case its a little less.
the factory 16x8 is 9" wide overall, the 10.5" wheels on my 92 are 11.5" overall, the 12" wheels on my 86 are 13" overall, ect ect.
those tires are not recommended for you wheels, but people do it.

295 on a 7" wheel is unsafe - you need at least a 9.5" to do it with confidence.
