Hooker Headers and AFR Vette

Just to let you know that Hooker Headers for a C4 vette with AFR straight plugs is a major project. Hooker Headers DO NOT FIT. $495.00 headers and they suck.

I tried to make stubby plugs but that still did not work. As a result I had 3 options. Place them in the garbage, Get a new custom set from Stahl or rework the Hookers.

I went down the road of reworking the hookers and am very pleased. Now what coating is the best? Jet Hot or what?

When buying headers, Have the car and Motor ready for fitment. Assume that the headers are wrong and buy them uncoated.

Those headers were most likely designed for the L98 angle plug heads that came factory on that car, in which case they would have cleared. It's no surprise they wouldn't work with straight plugs, many have run into this problem on f-bodies too.
You did a great fab job by the way.

yeah I had to get smaller spark plugs, that are made for headers from accell. I also have straight plugs, But I believe that the vettes are suppose to have angled plugs right?, if that's the case that prob why you had such a prob. If you had the angled plugs you prob wouldn't have the that prob with them.

Oh yeah Jet-hot is the best out there, Mine still look good, and I 've had them for over a year, and haven't even polished them (cause I'm lazy) And everyone whose seen them, they've liked them.

Oh is the C-4 LT1 or TPI if its TPI then disreguard my statement about the plug angles, I know that LT1 are angle, but I not sure about the tpi's, sorry about that. But I do know about the jet-hot.

Hooker Sucks

Angle plugs would work with this header. The funny part is if you look at the foot notes on the hooker site for this header, It says that this header will not work with AFR Angle plugs. To go one step further, the Hooker tech said the same thing. I even told him my combination and he said that angle plugs would be worse. i am not sure what he ment by worse. How much worse can a header be that covers the spark plug hole.

Wow that really sucks, I know when I get a set of heads (when I win the Lottory ) I'm going to go with angle plugs. Cause even with the shorter plugs it's still a tight fit. Yeah I couldn't see why the tech would say it would be the worse. well glad to hear that you got your headers hooked up. Oh yeah here's a pic of the header's coated by Jet Hot, I m telling it looks really sharp in person. http://community.webshots.com/photo/...44918469vHVLvH
This is a shot before the Stealth Ram, but they still look new after about a year of use. Also you can get them in different colors Red, Midnight Blue, or Sliver.

afr has a straight plug, angle plug, and a L98 plug design. i believe you needed the L98 design.

what about hedmans

i have hedman longtubes and afr 190's with the l98 plug angle....

it looks as if shorter plugs will be a must but no real word on them as i have seen.....

has anyone ever had any problems with this header afr combo???

the heads aren't on the car neither the headers, i was just mocking them up to check.....
