Who likes the PST front end rebuild kit??

I am rebuilding my front suspension in august and was really looking hard at the PST (polygraphite susp. tech. I think) kit.

Does anyone have this and more importantly do you like it.

if you have energy susp. or some other kind Id love to hear pros cons.

thanks
James

I was wondering the same thing. About how long would it take a mechanic to do this? Labor cost?? I dont think I want to try it myself.

I dont think you want to pay that much to a mechanic for something you will probably be able to do yourself. I asked my (old) mechanic once how much this would cost and he laughed and said it would take days (=thousands).
I just set aside a couple weeks and some money and will learn as I go.

Days?? Were talking about bushings, tie rods, etc. for the front suspension arent we?? I didnt think it would take that long. I think it would be easy to do the front sway bar but after that is when it gets hard. I dont like the idea of messing with a compressed spring that could pop out and do serious damage.

I wanted everything blasted and painted though and that was one thing that I forgot in the estimate he gave me.
the stuff that takes awhile I think would be pressing in the bushings and putting everything back together. I'm not an expert though as I havent done it yet, really I was just thinkin bout the pst kit.........

I have had the PST kit in my car for over 4 years. It was professionally installed, labor cost $400.00. That includes install of new shocks and struts. Anyway, the car still drives great, even after a bunch of autocross events....

I used energy suspension urethane bushings on the front and back suspension on my 82. Can't say how much they improved handling as I did all of the suspension over the winter, lowering springs new struts, sway bars, tie rods, ect.can only say it sticks to the road really well and love how it handles. If you don" have a repair manual like a Haynes get one, it will take you through each procedure step by step safely. Take your time and do it right, don,t think about deadlines, that' when S**t happens

I've got the PST kit and then some in my '84 Trans Am. The kit didn't come with inner tie rod ends, idler arm, or centerlink which I added. I also got a 1 1/2" sway for the front, and 1" for the rear. I put all of it on the car myself, along with Eibach springs, Spohn rear suspension, and KYB shocks/struts. It isn't really that hard, as there are many articles online about the swap. I am VERY happy with the product after using it. I will definately use PST again for my next F-body rebuild!

Here are a couple of links for those rebuild articles:
www.p-s-t.com
The article is under the suspension page, 'bout 3/4 of the way down.

http://www.yearone.com/nextgenparts/...suspension.htm

Hope this helps a little!

I've had the PST kits on both of my T/A's and they are by far the best components I've ever used. The polyurethane brings the handling up to world class and the graphite in it prevents the squeaking I had with the Energy Suspension crap I had on it before.

PST is highly recommended. The first T/A's install was done at PEP Boys in San Diego for $300, and I did my '83 myself. Wasn't hard, just took my time and it came out just right. The customer support there is awesome as well.

HTH!

I would strongly suggest using PSC (Performance Suspension Components), and not PST (Performance Suspension Technology). PSC uses only american made parts from ES, Moog and others. While PST uses some import manufacturers like TRW (made in taiwan). Just thought I should advise some of you who might be interested.

TRW is part of Federal Mougal(SP). They make very high quality parts and are an OEM manufacturer for Ford and other auto giants. Just because its made overseas doesn't mean that its junk.

I second the PSC over PST recommendation. I'd rather support my fellow Americans and buy their products.

PSC says that they use energy suspension components. What is the general opinion of the board on energy suspension?

If you look up a few posts PonchoTA mentions that he had squeaking problems with energy suspension. If I am going to put that much money and time into it I dont want to hear any squeaking coming from them.

Use SilGlyde from Napa or wherever and you'll have no squeaks.

BTW use it EVERYWHERE poly meets metal.

The parts are of good quality, but i found they were over priced. I bought the same parts from a local parts house cheaper.

Correct me if IM wrong.. but I thought Federal mougal supplied.. TRW,and Moog,as well as others.

I installed a PST kit over the winter and it made a heck of a difference. The car is more responsive and handles a lot flatter, even with stock bars (Iroc bars). Install wasn't bad, did it on the ground with jackstands. If you dont own an air compressor dont try shell out the bucks. Had fun playing with spring compressor. Had the control arm bushings installed by local body shop. I fought the bushings for a while and decided to hell with that ( was doing more damage than good). PST kits are graphite impregnated that is what made me buy them. Same poly but with anti-squeak already in them, I'M THERE DUDE! I would recommend them.
