Ram Air Box from E-bay

I bought these from E-bay for $49.99 thinking it would be a good bolt-on. I had to make too may modifications for the price I paid. First, I had to remove the fog lights in order to take off the plastic ducting around the lights for the boxes to fit, Second, I had to cut notches at the bottem for the fog light wiring. Third, it's tough to use aftermarket air filters, it catches on the metal housing. It's a good idea, but not worth $49.99 maybe $29.99.

I got those exact same boxes.....I paid $20 about a year ago. I think they are well worth it. I can tell on the track too....when I have to screens in to keep bugs from getting in I run a 10th of more slower.

Put em in.!

The fit-and-finish of those boxes dont appear to be that great. Like he cut them out with scissors or something.

I have them too, they work well - but yes the install is a little annoying.

I was thinking about buying these too...thought maybe I would need an xtra bottom filter housing to switch back to stock in case of rain?not that it rains much in SoCal...you guys/gals running these, did you feel much of a difference after your install?

I bought mine for $30.00 plus shipping and they took a little work to install but hey that part of the fun of working on our own cars. If you think it is just going to snap into palce like a kids puzzle you will not like them , bit hey I can do a little work not just run and complain Steven

i never bought those boxes, but i made my own. about 45 minutes with a dremel (metal sheares work nice too) and another 15 minutes at home depot picking out materials got the job done. i just drilled outline holes in that flappy rubber stuff, then used metal sheares as scissors to get out a square in the flappy rubbery stuff, so u can visually see the fog light openings. i then got pieces of 1/4" thick rubber sheets, and cut them to shape to form roughly the same shape as these boxes on ebay have. i used a torch to melt the rubber together on the corners to form a light bond on the seems, and then used sylicone culking to seal it up the rest of the way. boxes are holding up well, and didn't cost me more than about 15 bucks at home depot. no modifying to the fog light area either, since i cut the rubber to fit accordingly. I have'nt had my car to the track to test results, but i guy i know picked up 2 tenths from the mod. i think his car was running somewhere in the 13's at the time.

I am not trying to be off topic, but what do you guys think would work better. Those air scoops like the one shown above, or a open air filter box that would feed through a "ram air" hood.

I ask because I recently bought a "ram air" hood. I was considering fabbing up a filter box to make it "functional". Then I saw this post on how quite a few of you claim pretty decent gains with the more subtle air scoops.

Let me know which you all would think works better. Thanks...

i got mine at lowes (2) @ $2.99 each. they were 90 degree heater ducting with a 10" x 6" opening forced up into a 8" sqaure, i think its 8", or whatever size the filters are, because it mates right up to them, i noticed a big difference, and even more of a difference at higher speeds, i had to cut the bottom off of the piece where the air filters sit, im sure that helped a bit too. pretty decent price for ram air though $6 plus tax

I use the ebay ram air ducts as well. As mentioned, the quality is not the greatest, but the results are impressive. I bought mine around a year ago for $30 or so. The only thing that sucks is that they are not made for rain......

depends on what it looks like, if it takes all the air from the grill to the intake, then yes it will lack air flow to your radiator. the radiator gets some of its air from below also, but not enough.

thats exactly what i did, except for the opening on mine measures 6x8 instead of a circle. and you might want to adapt it to the air cleaner assembly, otherwise you wont get full effect of the ram air. most of the air will be under pressure and will hit the air cleaner as go to the side instead of staying under pressure and forcing it into the intake.

yeah i `m planning on doing just that.i`ll probably try to cone it off from the tubes to the air cleaner to seal it up better.just waiting for the rain to subside.i was also thinking of doing the same to the front of the tubes to get a better drawing of the air as well.

Has anyone had this problem? One guy I know says the air pressure from this type of modification is great enough to lift the air filters off their seats, allowing dirty air to seep past the filter.
