got beat by a 4 banger!
I raced a honda crx with a japanese version motor and 50 shot of nos. he beat me by about a car in a 1/4 mile. I have a 91 gta with msd wires, cap, coil, flowmaster exhaust, transgo shift kit, underdrive pulleys, kn filter, and i cleaned up the blockage in the plenum. it seems like he pulled on me once i hit 3rd gear (auto tranny, 350 tpi engine). what can i do to gain power in my weak spot (3rd gear always causes problems)? i know it's not perfect, but i used a g-tech and ran a 14.79 at 93 for my best time. he ran a 16.8 before the nos. any suggestions?

Damn dude, thats nuts. He is using a bigger NOS shot than 50 though. no way can he gain that much time with just a 50 shot.

I agree, he must be lying to you. A 50 shot would not take over two seconds off his 1/4.

SLP headers would help, it knocked off 0.3s in my G-Tech 1/4 mile times. Also try gutting your air box or buy a cold air kit.

Don't feel bad man, I have a buddy with a turbo Toyota MR2 4 banger that wipes the floor with most V8's around. He is running mid 13's, but the car is so picky. One day, we smoked a vette, the next day we lost to a 5.0 (close to stock). I guess there is no substitute to a rumbling v8 baby!
I get him some day.......
I get him some day.......
Don't feel bad. We build fast 4-bangers every day. I am surrounded. Last Sunday in Chicago, we ran 10.50 @ 138.5 with our Turbo Neon. Stock head and cams, too! If we had traction, it would have gone 9's. Street car, stock suspension, full interior, driven everywhere, etc. Scary...

he's actuall a good friend of mine. the guy that sold it said it was a 50 shot. that was all he did to it since the time he got that 16.8. he did a lot of reading up on it, though.

god do i hate rice rockets.. its sad to see an american made vehicle (especially a v8) get burnt by theese weedwhacker sounding 4 poppers.. anyway hes gotta be running more than a 50 shot, or hes got some sort of boost.. what rpm is your tranny shifting at, you said you had a shift kit.. you really shouldnt be in 3rd gear all that long, just a bit towards the very end.. considering hes probably running the most wicked cam his rice-4 could handle, why not get one yourself? and show him what a real fbody can do.. then youll see him buying a NOS upgrade kit.. :P

you have to remember a 50 shot of NO2 is adding 50% more power to his car, rice burners only make like 100-125 hp stock. OK that's like adding a 125 hp shot to your car so think about it...

Clean up the intake plenum and runners or shift to an aftermarket intake. A good cold air intake and some good headers and free flowing exhaust. Work on your suspension, you can build enough of a lead off the line that he won't be able to chase you down. Think of how long his motor will last running that much NO2, compared to your motor.

Here are a couple of good sites on this topic. http://www.speedmagazine.com/stories/ is a bunch of stories of street racing. If you get angry easy I wouldn't go there. They have a lot of stories about stock 82 hondas beating Irocs, and such. But the none BS stories are pretty good. My favorite site (other than this one) is http://riceboypage.com/ if you hate tricked out 4 cly. you MUST go here!
I gotta reply to this, cause the analogy to
rice burning motorcycles and harley davidsons
is just too close. I been ridin harleys for 20 years and never could beat the rice rockets unless i went crazy with an engine and even then it was tough. But you know what? after a while you don't care cause you usually have a woman with big ***** on the back of the bike anyway and the rice guys
don't. someone else on this board said it best that camaro+
350 + chearleaders + big ***** go together.
I ain't knocking anything or anybody but it hard to get "that good old feeling" in little pieces of tin.
Go as fast as you can in your camaro....bob

I agree, it really bites when a honda with a big tc can waste you. They are popular where I live, and love to smoke anything domestic. The only one I have beat(and my only win)was a 90ish prelude. I had about two carlengths untill the gov cut me off(this was on the open road, NOT a track.I only wish my six would do 112 in the 1/4!)
I think the guy just couldnt drive. Im pretty sure that honda is capable of walking on a 3.1 f-body. right?

First off I am a proud supporter of the ARM (anti rice movement). but those things are fast and u gotta respect them but that sure as hell dosent mean u have to like them. And they are all slow till Mommy and Daddy buy a turbo or juice for it. Theres this motorsports place near where i live and its like the only place in town to get nitrous filled and the guy that owns the place wont fill your bottle if u have a rice burner. And it seems like everyone at my Highschool that wants a fast car has a turbo integra or a damn prelude. And every one of those guys thiks he has the fastest car in school, and they all talk trash to me so i say race me for a hundred bucks and i usually win cause none of those guys can drive. And another thing nitrous isnt cheating if your racing a import.=)
sorry i rambled for so long but i hate imports.

Ok i just have a reply for rsilver about the whole harley/sportbike comment. BIG BIG BIG DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A SPORTBIKE AND RICEBURNER CAR. A sportbike is built specifically for speed. I have a kawasaki zx7r and stock it screams. A honda CRX is not built for speed. You buy those little pieces of **** and have to put a ton of money into them to make them fast, and they still sound like **** and look like ****. Now my zx7 on the other hand is built for speed, and I bought it to do what its built for. Besides, mad respect goes out to anyone with a bike, harley, goldwing, crotchrocket. Whatever you ride you get my respect. However somone drives by in an integra and i laugh.
well, next time you get beat by a ricemobille, just think of all the money they put into it and imagine how much you could do to your thirdgen with that much, hell the money tehy spend on the exhaust tips alone could get you a decent mod or two
hehe, you guys are gonna love this....check it out:
I'm in a car club, and we were driving down I4 and this *****, with no interior, not dash no nothing but 2 buckets sits and a chic desided to race the 95 TA, A4, and they hang out side by side t'il 125...so ok he is fast, smoking blue each time he got on it, until he started being a dum *** (flicked us off for no aparant reason), so we boxed him for 9 miles...the TA was up front, an Monte SS was right of him, up front, I was behind the SS with my 85 Z28 and behind him was a 95 Z28 6 speed, open headers...couldn't hear the guys' car....price less..heehee...
Bottom line is that if you are an *** , you remain an *** , no matter what you drive....its a question of attitude, and that guys/gals, apply to all of us...ALL.
I'd say don't worry about it until you got some good $$ and mod the car to go 12's...then race him again and laugh all the way to the end of the 1/4 mile!

I've seen my fair share of a$ses and I've done my share of being an *** . But you have to admit, a car is a definite reflection of personality.
And my one and only complaint about our FBodies is the weight...
And my one and only complaint about our FBodies is the weight...
I smell special high-compression rice heads and racing fuel in that Honda. Fours have less reciprocating mass, so they rev up quicker, too. Don't forget the ol' EPA is living in those stock heads of yours. Either dig those bureaucrats out of your ports and combustion chambers, or buy some heads that flow like the heads on that Honda. All of that peripheral stuff on your V8 is fine, but the head and camshaft is what's holding you back.
If you're really hard core and don't mind spending the $$$$$, put in the lightest weight pistons and rods that you can buy and get the whole thing balanced at the machine shop. Such work won't give you HP directly but will let that V8 rev up fast like a rice burner.

if you wanna see sum crazy crackhead ricers go to www.beaterz.com apparently every ricers uses the same sticker mathematical equation of 1sticker=1hp

Fair enough comment on the reciprocating mass issue. It also stands to reason that some of these ricers are very light to start with. It wouldn't be difficult to have a power to weight ratio better than the average F-body.
Of course, a true nitro-fueled racing go-kart can stomp any ***** (or most any car for that matter), up to 60mph but who would want to drive one? BTW, I've seen those racing karts drag 0-60 in under 3 seconds!
