Chosing a new cam...

I'm gonna have to get a new cam.. and i'm thinking about upgrading as well. i'm currently running the XR270HR which is a 495 intake/502 exhaust. 270 Specs

thinking about going with the 276 which is a 502 intake/510 exhaust, also reccomends a 2000+ stall ( i have a 2500 stall) 276 Specs

or the 282 which might be a little large but "go big or go home" right? lol
282 Specs

the 282 needs a 3K stall.. but i'm sure my 2500 would work out fine..

any input/suggestions are much appreciated.

Thanks,
Dave

the 270 was a great cam, no mine's not a daily driver.. if gas was cheaper i'd drive it more tho..lol

there are lots of sound clips of it with different exhausts here: http://whitelightning2.kicks-***.org/audiovideo.html

the single 3" straight pipe Y'd into duals sounded pretty cool but i love the sound of the true duals on it.

Sounds sweet, do roller lifters have much more of a lope to them than hydraulic lifters

the lifters don't make the difference.. it's the cam.

sometimes the addition of a higher ratio roller rocker will cause a little lope.. i've seen it in the GM 2.2 4 banger before that swapped the stock ones out for Comp 1.6 Magnums..

Why someone would modify a 2200 SOHC is beyond me.....

he's actually making some pretty good numbers with it.. about 160-170 HP. He does alot of autocross so having a very light engine tends to help out

lol, i think he's on his 3rd engine

he's considering a Quad 4 2.3 HO swap or a 3400 SFI swap.. both are about 180-190 HP stock. I was checking out the car at the '05 V6Z24 bash. It's pretty nice in person, he's got alot of hard work into it.

I hear quad 4's have a lot of issues too.....Wonder if you could cram a 3800 series II in there......

it's been done a few times now.. the 3400 is a way easier swap though since it shares almost all the same sensors and mounts as the older 3.1 (1 custom mount needs to be made)..

the fastest recorded 1/4 time is a track only 2nd gen cavalier with a turbocharged 3800 running high 11's.. with a turbo'd 3.1 right behind it running 12 flats ( www.turboz24.com )

traction in a FWD car sucks

Lol, but Dave...back to topic, whatcha got into your motor? The 270 as you've got now is a bit mild, especially on the duration..... Got head work or anything?

I'd go with the 276 personally...the 282 sounds a little too hairy unless you like to keep your motor wound up tighter than an obsessive compulsive crackhead in a college dorm room....

But then I'm familiar with 302 cams....so I'm not exactly sure what's "big" and what's "small" for an SBC....

lol

i'm actually thinking about starting over.. i'd like to find a 400 to build up but i'll probably just end up using this 350 block.

i'll probably go with some good flowing double humps, performer RPM intake.. not sure what pistons/rods yet. I'll have to do some more research since it's been 5 yrs since i built this engine..lol

i'm shooting for 400 HP at the crank and i'd like the engine to last for a few years so the wifey will get off my back about selling it
