Hi all.
Has anyone tried this kit off Amazon? I'm thinking of adding power windows to my 86 sport coup. I was concidering adding one off a parts car that already has factory power windows... But I though this would be best and cheaper.
Cheaper being the operative word here. It is unlikely this will work as well and as long as GM window regulators. It would probably be easier to swap in the regulators and window/door harness from another car and add it into your car than to try and make that work. GM already made everything you need, you just have to pull it off a parts car and put it in yours..... regulators, harness, shifter plate, and switches. If you are also so inclined, you could do the "relay upgrade" and/or just increase the wire size in the GM harness. That is what I did when I tore my car apart. I cleaned all the window tracks, re-lubed them and replaced the factory wiring with 10 gauge from the switches to the doors, since I already had the wire. Now they work better than any other GM door I have ever seen new. Another potential upgrade is the "Window racer" from G-body parts, it increases the voltage to the window circuit, so when you operate the windows, they go a lot faster
It is a lot of work to make manual windows electric, and or find doors & switch them, etc...
A friend and I had installed many aftermarket electric window kits back in the day and they worked great.
Brand name was Spahl (if my growing up in the 80's memory still serves me
Find a quality kit, be sure to clean and lube all the parts in the manual door tracks, etc...
My firebird had electric windows, so I did put the proper parts in, but had it not, I would go this route absolutely from my experience with kits like this from Spahl.
