Buyer Beware, Modern Day Muscle

Buyer Beware, Modern Day Muscle
I made a purchase from Modern Day Muscle for several items. One of the items, was a drivers lower dash cover for a 91 rs. What I received was the the passergers side cover for an earlier model. I have sent 3 e-mails over the last 3 weeks, with no response. By the way, their website does not list an address or phone number, hello. If you order from these people, you better hope you get the right part.

Have had 4-5 dealings with MDM, even returned an item and always had good service. Caught him out of town once and it took him several days to get back to me, but was quick once we connected.

I've ordered several items from them and never had any issues, that's having stuff mailed to the UK too. I believe they also trade on eBay.

I purchased a few things from him over the years. Most of my purchases went well. But I did purchase something off Ebay that I never received. I went through the same issue - no responses to emails. It did eventually get resolved, and I understand he is a 1 man show, but he needs to respond quicker when there is an issue.

I've also ordered from them & gotten good service. I guess we can call this an isolated incident...

Re: Buyer Beware, Modern Day Muscle
I've made many purchases and all went well. I did have one where the wrong part was shipped and I emailed them and never received anything back. I emailed again and still never received anything back. The part received wasn't an issue as it's a discontinued part and not readily available and is the same price as the part I needed. I decided to keep it since it was NOS and not available anywhere else anyway. They usually are quick to ship and the parts are as described.

Re: Buyer Beware, Modern Day Muscle
I made several purchases from him that went very well. Good NOS parts and fast shipping. However, when things go bad, they go bad. I bought several parts from him off of Ebay in a bulk order that ended up missing a fairly expensive part I had paid for. I let him know the part was missing from the order. He responded back timely, but emailed something to the effect of "we don't make shipping mistakes" and he never made it right. He told me he had checked his inventory and therefore knew he sent the part I was missing since his inventory numbers were correct. He then blocked me from buying anything else off Ebay from him. A bit frustrating when I had 100% feedback and at the time at least 400 positives on Ebay. All I wanted was the part I paid for .

fighting with them right now. Bought the wrong seatbelt, my fault. They said hit Buy It Now on the correct seatbelt and we will invoice you the difference once they receive the other other belt. Just got a failure to pay notice from Ebay. I write Modern Day muscle about the complaint, havent heard back.

I have ahd dealings with MDM. So far its been okay. The only thing that I ever had problems with was USPS which lost the item I returned in the mail. Thank goodness it was only a 20 dollar part

Re: Buyer Beware, Modern Day Muscle
First: I've purchased parts from MDM / PerryPam over the years and have never had a problem.
I ship a couple hundred parts every year,...... the last time the USPS (or UPS or Fed Ex ) lost one of the packages I shipped was about 12 years ago. break-down: I avoid UPS due to a lot of damaged items sent and received thru them and tend to use Fed Ex for large packages, so most of my shipping is thru the USPS.
There are 25 ( or so ) guys that posted to this thread in the last 4 years, and at least 6 have dealt with "lost" packages without any recourse..... No one likes to give away their $$ . I find it hard to believe that anyone selling as many parts as he does doesn't insure those "quality NOS" items against loss or damage. There is a procedure to follow if something is lost or busted up in shipping; it takes a while, but the post office is ( well - was at least ) good about resolving claims due to "lost" items.
After all; what good is paying a premium price for a "quality NOS" part if it never gets delivered ?? He's one of the few sources of NOS Thirdgen parts left out there,...... so I hope interested buyers that read this thread will learn to DEMAND insurance when buying from this vendor.

Nothing ever goes missing.
If something goes "missing" from a mom-and-pop, it's because they didn't send it. Can't believe people still fall for the "it got lost" line, every shipment gets tracking even the cheap stuff.

Im sorry, sir, but I take great offense to that! If something got lost, it got lost. I always send my packages, and Ive been the one to refund, while waiting for whomever to research and return money for lost item to me.

use a credit card report it to the credit card they will reverse the charge an the shipper can write it off as left or damage during shipping that's why they have business insurance.

Re: Buyer Beware, Modern Day Muscle
I believe UPS has a similar policy. I have dealt with companies that rectified problems in shipping, wrong parts received, etc. Most vendors make good on errors, whether it is their fault or not. Modern Day Muscle did not even respond to the many emails I sent him regarding the order I never received. That's not indicative of someone I will do business with in the future.

Re: Buyer Beware, Modern Day Muscle
I'm a UPS driver and you are correct, the shipping price includes $100 of free insurance. I also laugh when shippers say the shipping company lost an item, but yet they won't provide a tracking number. The amount of lost items is extremely small. Most damages occur because of poorly packaged items. When shipping an item remember that it's going to be loaded with thousands of other items of various weights, shapes and sizes. Your item is not picked up and transported cross country in a padded truck all by itself.

Re: Buyer Beware, Modern Day Muscle
I had never experienced a shipper lose a package until I moved to the Chicago Region. I lived up there for 5 years and experienced USPS losing half a dozen packages "lost." One was even a set of AFR comp port heads
The AFR heads I spent hours over many days calling and emailing people at the post office(s). Heads got scanned onto a departing truck and never scanned in, just vanished. Never showed up. After talking with a higher up regional official of USPS I no longer believe any package gets lost by a shipper, it's either stolen or the box breaks open and an employee doesn't want to report it or the "send to" label gets destroyed.

Re: Buyer Beware, Modern Day Muscle
I ship MANY packages a year selling third gen parts WORLDWIDE !!
And I NEVER use stupid UPS. A decade ago I shipped seats to NY and it was packed BY UPS store and they arrived damaged bottom of box tore open !!! . I had to ARGUE AND FIGHT 2 weeks for a claim check !! And they are the MOST expensive to ship with unless you have a HIGH volume account !! NEVER AGAIN UPS !!!
Now a days, 75% of my shipments go Fedex through my ebay account and I get 25% off ground and get to use commercial only Fedex smart post which is the CHEAPEST service I have found next to USPS !!!
In 15 years of selling third gen parts, I only had maybe 2 or 3 packages lost or damaged with fedex and was sent a claim check very quickly !!! no issues
And I have shipped some parts with greyhound bus and no issues either !! VERY cheap to ship large but light weight parts !!!! ........Bumpers, Dash pads and fenders

Re: Buyer Beware, Modern Day Muscle
The UPS Store and UPS are not one and the same. The UPS Stores are individually owned franchises that wear the UPS name. They charge for everything done once you cross their threshold and add a substantial surcharge to UPS's actual shipping charges. They have their own guarantee if they pack your shipment. UPS offers their own version of smart post called surepost. Customers hate it because it's handed over to the post office and there's no guarantee on service. You also can't file a claim on these packages.

For what it is worth I bought a MAF from them on Ebay this Monday and received it today (Thursday) in WA state. The item was well packed and arrived just fine. Perfect ebay transaction in my books.
