Re: HSR with TH350?

What hood do you have on your Formy? I was thinking on buying an HSR and I wanted to know if the (Hawk's Third Gen) Ram Air Hood II would work?
----------
Forgot to add that i just bought my 89 Formy last week.

Re: HSR with TH350?

i dont even have a formula hood...its a 2.8's hood and the hsr is coming through the hood! if the ram air hood is around 2 inches higher than stock, you should be fine iirc

btw welcome to the board

Thanks for the welcome. I'll have to do some research on the hood.

Re: HSR with TH350?

i have the ram air II hood and i got it from ramairhood.com i believe it was cheaper than hawks. yea u should have no prob, the hood is 2" taller in the center, the HSR is only 1/2 taller than the TPI up front. so u will have no prob.

i love the hood by the way but i think it was bowed alil bit during being made bc it doens fit perfectly flush, but its close enough for me not to give a SH&T
welcome to the board

Yep, there's less rpm drop between the gears and that's a good thing for an intake that makes peak torque as high as the HSR. You loose some gear multiplication in first gear,,, but you're able to make more mph in first,,, so it's about a wash. That is as long as you have a decent stall speed and rear-end gear ratio.

Re: HSR with TH350?

i'm assuming you need a custom bracket for the kickdown cable for the TH350. i am not sure how that works for a th350 but i assume its got a tv/kickdown cable

your probly using TPI throttle plate for the hsr for the 700r4 stuff. you'll need to keep the throttle cable on there for the gas pedal obviously and need to run the tv cable from the th350 up to the intake and see what you need to mount to the plenum to make it work

ELSE get a manual valve body and you will need no kick down cable

You're right. You need the kick down cable to function on the TH350 for fully automatic operation. Lokar has the TPI TH350 cable (plastic or braided) that clicks right into the stock TPI/HSR throttle bracket.

The lokar can be run without buying their bracket if you have an old 700 detent clip and trim on the plastic a little. Maybe not a noob trick,, but not difficult. Lokar used to make a plastic one that literally clicked into place. I can't seem to find that one.

However,, I did a quick search and I can't make it any more simple or cheaper. About halfway down the page linked below is a TPI / TH350 cable for $25. It clicks right into the stock TPI bracket that you'll use on the StealthRam. Totally automatic,, totally easy.
