stock 350 heads as in L98 iron heads? stock cam as in stock L98 cam?
i happen to like my holley stealth ram for performance and price. With a TPI retrofit ecm/wiring harness, you can easily convert to HSR

Bigwill92,
Orr89RocZ has a point the holly unit is a nice setup and if you wanted to port the heads and toss in a cam down the line you would already have the intake covered. It also has the advantage of being one of the best money spent/power gained ratio there is out there. I think the stealth is 400, the super ram (good luck finding one) will vary in price as its not in production anymore, mini ram is around 1300, and the first is 1000.
As an alternative, the first injection setup is a nice breathing unit. It is a ltr type setup so you would retain your low end torque. An easy setup for buckets of street friendly torque would be to get a set of 180 cc heads (or port yours over) with a good angle valve job/larger ports 2.02/1.60 then get a short duration cam to keep your power down low nothing more that 5500-6000 peak rpm. This way you don't wear out your valve train so fast and you'll have plenty of power to slay the usual around town suspects.
Remember every component in your engine has to work together to be efficient. it depends on where you want to you cars power range to be and how much money you want to spend.

I seriously wish I would have known about this before!
Anybody on here actually have one of their setups?

Re: trying to go EFI
i do believe there is a few ppl here with them, and some on corvette forum. I think 1989GTAtransam has a first base with moddified SLP runners that will bolt to the first base. He made 350whp before these mods so i think he will pick up

Re: trying to go EFI
The thing that I like about the First setup is that it has a provision for an egr valve. This is the only option for places like California where smog inspection is strict. The only other option, as far as having an egr provision besides modifying the tpi, is accel's supper ram.
BBK is making a "turtle ram" type setup if you have the patience to wait. This will also have an egr provision.
These, that I have mentioned, are just the setups with egr. There is the miniram and the stealth like Orr89RocZ mentioned which are also great options in their own right.
Take your time and read the posts that people have up. There are many posts relating to each of these types of intakes (besides the BBK which hasn't been released yet) and their performances with particular cid/head/cam/rocker arm ratio combos.

Yeah, I found a few threads about the FIRST in the TPI section and on CorvetteForums.com. I've been looking for an alternative form of EFI for about a year now. I have a bored out TBI and Edelbrock TBI manifold, but it is seriously hurting for airflow above 4k. And of course, like many people I live in an area with emissions. This eliminated most of the aftermarket stuff.
Even with the choking TBI stuff, I still managed 365 RWTQ on the dyno, so I can only imagine what a system like this would do.
Another appealing asset of it is that it fits under the hood and they supply all the electronics. It seems the only thing I would need to do to make it all work is pick up a good fuel pressure regulator and a small cap distributor.
Any idea on when the "Turtle Ram" is due out?

Gunny Highway,
No news on a specific release date. The thread is:
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tpi/...-setup-13.html
Check it periodically to see if there are any updates.
If you have to deal with smog checks then I would just go with either a first or a supper ram. In terms of installation, the first would be easier to bolt on. The supper ram does have its benefits such as a higher cfm flow compared to the first but really not by much. With porting the first can get up there too. So its up to you what you think. I have a supper ram now and going form a tpi to a supper ram, it does have more horse up top with the trade off of torque down low. I am running the 219 cam so with this setup it also needs gears to be either 3.42 or 3.70s. Just haven't decided yet on which shall be the one. Just my experience.

Well I talked to Ken (?) at FIRST and I think that might be the way to go. His full kit comes with everything but the regulator and throttle cable. I'll need one since my TBI ones isn't long enough. The only problem now, is that I live in an apartment, so I don't have a place to work on it. That means I'm going to have to pay for it.

Everyone always forgets that professional products has an efi kit. They just converted the Hurricane single plane intake to EFI and give a fuel rail kit. Am i still going to be the first to try it?
