Re: HSR vs TPIS Mini Ram?W
The HSR has only a slight advantage over high flow TPI in RPM ceiling and high rev power limit. The Miniram is a completely different beast that makes power to 7,000rpm. An HSR will work on a mild to serious street small block and support 450hp. The Miniram will run on a mild engine but will sacrifice torque and the mild engine will not breath well enough to make use of its high rpm capabilities.
In order to capitalize on the miniram, you need an engine that will make power to at least 6,500rpm. that means high flowing aftermarket heads, a formitable cam grind and a well machined bottom end. In the right combination, the Miniram will support over 550hp. The issue is, how serious are you about building an engine? If you are thinking budget, forget the Miniram and go with the HSR. You'll maintain some of the TPI's torque and gain a little up top, if you have good heads and cam. If you plan on getting serious with the engine, the Miniram will produce results for you.

Check this article out, comp did an intake shootout on a 10:1 383 with TFS heads and XR288 cam. http://xtremecarzone.com.au/index.php?showtopic=386 I'd say $/hp the HSR takes the cake.

Yes, but slight trimming will make it clear on your car(one small section of hood support on our 91 Z)

OK cool, well both my 3rds are TPI so the choice is wich one. Ill probably keep the Formula stock since it will be my DD & work on the Z for performance. The Formy will be apperance for now.

Re: HSR vs TPIS Mini Ram?W
There is no question in my mind that the best bang for the buck intake right now IS the Holley Stealthram. The TQ loss is minor compared to the extended powerband. You never hear of LT1 guys complaining that their LT1s lack torque, I know mine doesn't in my LT1 swap.
There is nothing wrong with building a TPI setup, but when you are counting beans the HSR is one of the best. If I had a TPI car again I'd be doing a HSR swap.

For better info on the Miniram, you need to look at TPIS's own test results. They've pulled well over 550hp out of the miniram on a 406 with one of their solid roller cams. The Miniram can be ported to support 210cc intake ports and it does well at that level. Id say that Comp must have not had that engine set up right for it. It wants to flow air and make power to 7,000rpm.
I will stand corrected on the Stealth Ram however. That is impressive. Though I'm quite pleased with the results they got with a setup very close to mine.

Re: HSR vs TPIS Mini Ram?W
Depending on cam and heads that would be a mean set-up, I'm not sure how much boost HSR's can handle, though I've never heard of any issues along those lines.
As for hood clearance I kept my stock motor mounts in and the only area that rubs is the first rib on the intake boot just barley rubs on a bulged area that was used for whatever held the under hood foam on. I just ever so slightly manipulated it and now its fine
As far as torque loss dyno day is a week or two but with my 3.42's and 2,800rpm converter it feels like there's more torque than my 355 TPI ever had and it pulls quick to 6,000rpm's even with my smaller 170cc heads. All I have to say is I love how the HSR performs. IMHO I would never build another TPI motor after having a stealth ram not to mention how easy they are to work on compared to TPI

I have an accel super ram setup for sale. Great intake for just about any combo under 7K rpm. can be ported out to handle a lot of motor and make big power!

HSR i feel has a better bang for the buck over miniram for all mild to medium performance builds that most will do here. Up to 500 hp its hard to match the stealth ram. Miniram shines above 6200-6400-ish rpm and carries all the way to whatever rpm you want to rev to. Ported stealth ram can go to 7K just as easily but miniram has more flow when ported. A ported miniram would be best choice for guys building huge cubic inch 400+" sbc's that NEED the airflow. Most HSR's cant be easily ported to 1206 gaskets which you will find on 210-230cc heads that 400+ inch motors will need to make big power to 6500+.
My buddy's 406 runs mid 10's at 130mph on motor alone with a 6spd...480-ish whp car. Box stock miniram. They make power. He's switchin to single plane EFI so we shall see if that miniram holds it back or not. I'd love to see him try a HSR intake to see what they can do. Especially my old intake since I ported it out a good ways but I no longer have it. I wish I never sold it.
