Best way to clean dirty aluminum rims?

Need tips mine have stains that don't want to come off and the clear coat isn't in good shape.

Should I buff them with a buffer?

Thanks

I like Quick Silver 2 safe for all wheels, and a brush, works well.

Strip the clear coat. I started polishing my rims (or rim actually) and it looked MUCH better without the clearcoat on it.

Oh come on, it only take 10 or so minutes to polish a wheel.

I'm up to 7 hours on one. But thats cause I missed some cast marks and noticed them at 400, so I went back down to 120, then had to redo 220, 320, and 400 of course. I'm through 600 now and hopefully will finish it today.
