Sorry, but I don't know how to get 2 pics on one post, so I am going to do it separately for now. I spent a few hours on it with a toothbrush, a can of WD-40, some paint thinner, polish, and some soapy water.

Yeah, I tried giving that a polish as well. I am hoping to get a Dremel soon, and when I take the engine out for a rebuild, I hope to polish close to everything in the engine bay that is aluminum.
I'm going to see if I can polish anything else up in there.

Engine looks great! I bought an open-element chrome air filter assembly like yours to replace the single snorkel setup on my '83 305. I've been wondering what to do about the pipe that leads from the valve cover to the stock air cleaner. What did you do to yours? Thanks!

Actually, mine is still on there. It is just up next to the filter. You can just go to a local auto parts store, or else order one of those breather filters that go on in place of that tube. But, here is another picture that shows how mine is for now. I think I might buy one of those little filters and housings to stick on there later.
Also, the Air Temp Sensor fits well between the two filters.

I noticed that mine has a lot more hoses & crap which sit on top of the passenger's side valve cover....did you do anything to change/move them, or is that pretty much the way your engine bay has always looked? Your pictures have now motivated me to clean up my engine compartment :hail:

Looks to me like he did a Smog Pump Delete. That would clear up all of the 'crap' that lives on top of the passenger side valve cover.

All I did was relocate the heater valve to the pass. side fender. If you want some more detailed pics, just let me know. I can also make a little write-up to tell you how to do it. You don't even have to buy any new hose! I did it with all pre-exhisting stuff. I only had to add a little coolant to make up for that that was lost.
I did not get rid of the smog pump, just the diverter valves which are under that black box and some of the rubber hoses. Both of these things take about 30min to an hour to do combined. Not too bad considering it is actually free.

No prob.
If I have some free time tomorrow, I might be able to get some pics taken and a few hints/idea written up. I think it could pretty much be done from pics alone, so....
But I'll get that done for ya.

Alright, well, here are some pics. I'll get back on in a little while and write up a little something. Maybe you can figure out something from these pics.

Well, all you need to do is relocate the pre-exhisting hoses on your heater valve. To do this, you need to pretty much completely drain the coolant from the engine and radiator. So, this should probably be done around the time that you do this. Or else, you can just empty it into a giant bucket like I did, and jsut put it back in when you are done.
After draining the system, I completely removed the valve from the 3 hoses that run to it. I also loosened the clamp that holds the hose, which comes up from blow on the pass. side fender. Just twist it around so that when straightened, it will reach over above the fender.
Take the other 2 hoses and run them through the AC stuff.
Just hook it all back up and you are done.
MAKE SURE ALL THE CLAMPS ARE TIGHT!!!!
I forgot to tighten one and it made a large mess and somehow completely filled my exhaust system with coolant. Luckly not a head gasket or anything.
Refill the readiator and you are done.
Oh, also be sure to note which hoses go to what places on the valve. I'm not sure what would happen if you got them mixed up....so don't mix them up.

Honestly, the pics have such good resolution, and are so clear that the pictures actually look better than it does if you are standing in front of it. So, really..the engine is not quite that clean. But still a giant improvement.
I guess you could say that the actual car doesn't do the pic justice. Kind of strange to say because it is usually the other way around.
