Which one do you have? The inspoiler type, the kind at the top of the hatch? I have the in spoiler type, and there are some connections where the hatch closes that i cleaned up, then it started working... I'm pretty sure that's how it's getting it's power...
3rd brake light
The brake light is on the hatch outside window
Did I mention that I changed the bulbs + fuses?

For the '86 check to see if when you push the brake does the light inside the DEFROSTER switch on the dash light up. If it does go to the hatch and check to make sure the connectors into the rear window defogger are pushed in. It should be the connectors on either side near the top of the rear window hatch. They come out sometimes from lifting the hatch. If they come out the rear brake light will not light up.
Also I too put a black bowtie emblem on my 3rd light so that when I hit the brake it lights up. Real sweet.

Mine did this too. If you can wait until Monday, I will give you a
step by step photo lesson on how to make it work again. Took me
about 2 hours of testing and looking for problems, but you can
probably do it in about 5 minutes, knowing where the problem lies.

it's an 86 with high brake light on hatch
Thanx, Marie
why not remove it
hey Marie,
Why not just remove it? I did and it was the best thing I've done to the exterior besides getting it repainted. IMO the high-mount light looks like crap, see if you can pick up a spoiler with it integreated into it. I have the IROC spoiler myself, so why not get one from another T/A? Makes a much cleaner look for the car I think.

Can you send me a pic of your car without it so i can get an idea of what the after marks would be?
Thanx, Marie
Yeah I'll borrow a friend's digital camera to take some pics for you. If your hatch glass was originally drilled for louvers like mine was, then you're already aware of the 4 circular holes that take those black plastic plugs, basically when you remove the brake light, you just buy two more plugs to fill in the holes, barely noticeable in my opinion.
