I just used some of that CD2 Engine cleaner and Detailer and I found it looks really really good. It's 2 cans, one that's like a degreaser, and then the other one is like a tire shine type spray that foams up.

The stuff I used is CD2 Engine Cleaner & Engine Detailer. Got it at Target for $5. It's a 2 can set. The first can, you spray it on a WARM engine. (If there's some tough grease, you use your good old engine degreaser, I used STP just for the stubborn ones) You let that cleaner stay on for 10 minutes. After 10, you spray it off w/ a hose (REMEMBER TO COVER ALL ELECTRICAL, IE Distrib and Alt, and your intake!) I didn't cover the batt, it looks shiny! After you hose it off, run the engine for about 10, just take it around the block or your neighborhood a few times. Come back, and spray the second can of CD2 Engine Detailer. It's just spray on, and leave for 20 min. You should have an engine as clean as mine after!
one more thing lol don't really bash the 2.8, its long lasting engine, couple members on the V6 board have gone 200,000+
one more thing
Oh and where is the engine?

That engine bay is fantastic. How flammable is tha stuff. Last thing I need is an engine fire.
The cool thing about having a 2.8l is that if you are slim guy such as myself, you can actually stand in your engine bay with engine.

Well it says on the can CAUTION: EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE! so I guess it is. I touched the coolant bottle and it was really oily, so I don't know. what will start off an engine fire anyway???
One thing I can't stand about cleaning the engine, is that the alternator never gets clean! You have to cover it up and it never gets shined or degreased.

Crazy story for you about engine bay detailing...
About 3 weeks ago I was at a show. This chick and her club rolls in. There are about 4-5 cars in their group. They looked like they had not even been washed. It was raining that day. So as soon as teh sun breaks out, they start cleaning. They have damp towel and towel the dirt of the cars, then the open the engine bay. They break out a WD-40 can and start spraying away. Then they shoot degresser. Then a bucket of water is poured on the engine then more WD-40. On the exaust manifolds too. We joked about them prepping for an engine swap there in the parking lot.
We all sat back and laughed. We were so gonna clear out before they cranked up their cars. Then their club president came over and asked our group (ACFA)
our pres w/ a Blk 4th gen bird, my car, John with his red 4th gen Bird, and Mark with his 4th gen Sunset orange Bird) If we wanted to join his club. It was so hard not to laugh. We said no thanks we were the ACFA (atlanta camaro and firebird association).
Sorry just had to share...

Do you just cover EVERYTHING with it or something??? Does it being oily attract alot of dust/dirt?

I have used the Detailer that is discussed above and if I remember right it has some antistatic properties to repel dust. It not like armoral or black magic. They would attract dust. I used it the one time, but I prefer the matte look to the gloss.
89V6FBIRD, its looks great on your engine by the way!

That's gotta be one of the cleanest stock 2.8s I have seen in a long time...not sure how much of that is upkeep or the product, but either way it looks great!

About the alternator, I think I'll just go get a new one under warranty. My car always seems to eat through them, once every 3 years. Do you think Kragen will test it before they give me a replacement???
