What do you think of my spoiler and taillight idea?

The spoiler is the stock Firebird Spoiler with a Camaro RS middle section molded on top. The taillights would have the Old Dodge Charger taillight look with the turn signal section painted in a stripe that would be the same color as the body so that the taillights don't look so large. I would move turn signal bulb to where the small 194 bulb would be. I don't mind the stock lights, but the amber section I don't like.

I'm not big on the spoiler idea, but it's your car and if that's what you wanna do go for.

Id do the Tail light mod but i dont Like the spoiler, If you put the 60s camaro/Bird Style Spoiler on dont put it on top of your old spoiler

In the pic i posted you can see a 60 style Spoiler it looks cool if you ask me.

bj350hp, I have seen 2 birds with that spoiler in the last month. Is it a dealer add on or is it factory?

Do you have pics from any other angles? Its kind of hard to tell how it would look just from the rear. I like the tailllight idea, though...I'm glad to see some others doing different stuff.

i think its factory from what iv read about it. Cous thay only did it one year (1988) . If it was a dealer thing im sure thay would have done it more than just one year.

Hey, I was wondering what you were brewing up!

Interesting, Hmmm...I like where you are going.

Just for giggles...What would it look like without the base model rear bumper inserts? They keep catching my eye and I can't get a good feel for the mods. I don't know what it is about those inserts mixed with gfx. They just throw my eye everytime. Hense me getting rid of mine. What if you painted the black section on the tailights body color like mine? Just curious to see what those versions would produce.

The tail looks interesting though...Hey, like Joe I am curious. Did you mock up any versions from the side of that spoiler? Would you mold it into the stock spoiler? Or just mount it to it?

The spoiler idea didn't look so good from the side. You guys think a Z28 wing would look good on a Formula with a Trans Am style front ground effects.

Well Redraif, on the taillights I wanted the stock style, just slimmer. I like the black around the lights. I used the paint strip just to make the taillights look slimmer. I had to crudely photoshop what the car would look like without the black bumperetes, which is what the rear of my car looks like, except I have plastic mesh over plexiglass. Here are some photoshopped pics.

I like it, it would be REALLY cool if someone would make sequential tail lights like the old cougers have. I love that, when you put on the signal the bulbs light up from the inside out. Like a triffic signal for a construction zone sort of. That would be sweet.

it's not the lights that need converting for that, but the wiring. There is a kit (it was discussed before...do a search) that converts another kind of car's taillights to do that...might be an Impala, not sure....you could just modify it to fit your taillights.

OH MY G0D its a 2nd gen trans am mutated into a third gen baseline firebird! Run before it kills you with its absence of options!

Seriously, though, that must have been a dealer option because i have never seen that before.

About the photoshopped blue bird. I don't really like it, looks too tacky.

Hey, Bj350hp, that spoiler in the Pontiac pic looks cool. Mostly because it's different. Anyone know where one could find one?

I have Now clue man. Only the 88 could get them. The only place i could think of to get that spoiler is the Junky and that would be a very rare Find. Id like to get that Spoiler for my 87 camaro and have a 60 style retro looking for my 87 ..

If You really wanted im shure you could custom fit 60 camaro/firebird Sopiler on a thirdgen.

to me the spoiler looks like the stock spoiler just angled up, the pic dont really show it that good. but if that is it, wouldnt it lift your *** end up and make it real light and dangerous at high speeds.

I have been thinking about picking up this junk 88 Bird for parts the nice thing is that it has the complete 88 apperance package still attached with the rear spoiler and lower wheel flares.
I thought it was custom at first untill I checked some history and codes.

I think there was someone here or on the Body and Interior section who got one from a yard. It was a few weeks back. Run a search on spoilers. He was tring to find out what is was and see if anyone wanted it I believe.

Speaking of cool spoilers, we saw one at the TA Nats on a really sweet Black TA, made by Mecham for their TAs. It sort of reminded me of the Fox-body Mustang Saleen wing, but much nicer looking. We have some pictures of it, but I don't think they're on disc...maybe I can scan them this weekend.

Anyone have any nice side or rear shots of one. I wanted to get some, but that darn poll was in the way and the cars next to him were parked too close for the side shot to come out.

I just got off the phone with Mecham...they don't have the wing anymore, or even the molds to make it, but would be interested in talking to anyone who has one to possibly make a new mold. He's been getting a few requests for it lately. He also said its a very effective wing...Mecham holds the only SCCA Trans Am win that the Trans Am ever won!

If the owner of this wing happens to see this post, or you have one, call Mecham at 623-486-3144.

If you have one you're interested in selling, email me!!!!

That black T/A looks AWESOME!!! I'm not into wings at all, but that looks great. Redraif, do you know anything about that car? I like the sidepipe exhaust. Do you know if it's a custom job or where the owner might have found that system?

Joe talked to the guy quite a bit about it. I believe it is custom. Here are a few more shots. He won the custom 3rd gen division at the TA Nats in 2001. Some class I won this year.

Here is the exhaust:

The exhaust is custom, and was very nice...the whole car was really sweet. He had a cowl induction hood (harwood I think), which I don't normally like on TAs because it looks so Chevy, but he added stock vents from the front of a TA hood and it looked natural, and suddenly much more Pontiac.

This car won at the Nats last year, and you can see why!

I like that spoiler. Do you know where I can buy a Mecham spoiler for a 3rd gen T/A? I searched the web and it seems there are kits only available for 4th gens? Any help finding it would be greatly appreciated.

Well thats the problem. Joe contacted Mecham to get a spoiler and they don't make them and don't even have the molds. You would have to happen upon one at a yard or on Ebay.

Mecham is looking for someone to let them make a mold off of. So Worst case I will talk to the staff at the TA Nats and see if I can get the guys email and see if he an Mecham can work something out. Then the rest of use who are pining for one can get our hands on one.

That's really disappointing... I'm gonna start searching yards for that spoiler... kinda reminds me of a search for the holy grail. Hopefully that guy can be contacted and would be willing to work something out with Mecham.

This may sound dumb, but an interesting idea, what about using an actual saleen or saleen styl spoiler for stangs, they have the same basic look, just wouldnt be a pedestal mount styl, anyone think thet would look ok? It might be worth checkin out, like one for trunk style coupe stangs they have the flat trunk, and i think the width might be close too.

I thought about that...as a matter of fact, I thought it was a modified Saleen wing when I first saw it. If all else fails, I may try to modify one...one of my friends at Mustangs Unlimited could probably hook me up.

I like the look of that last wing. I think I may try to modify the stock one to look like it. A lot of fiberglassing and time. I like the factory aerowing on GTAs and Formulas but they are to common for my tastes and I like wings that cover the full width of cars.

Looks kinda like this. This is an orignal Motor Sports Edition modifyed by Mecham Racing. Same wing on the black T/A below, but this one has been on the car since 1982. I talked to the guy with that T/A and he said he got it off of ebay from California. Thats the only part of the car from Mecham. My dad may call Mecham about molding the spoiler. I'm not saying anything will happen. Just to keep you informed.
