what is this called.

While at a junk yard i saw something on a firebird that I want to add but i don't remember what they are called.
it was above the tires on the panel and was silver.

Here is a picture of my car. And the part circled in white is what i am talking about.

I think most call it CRAP!!!!

there is a sysmetry that each car has when the designers create automobiles... by putting other items on our cars or any other you disturb the balance and the car starts looking like a fridge with too many magnets on it....

keep it looking stock... if you want to stand out... make it from a sweet paint job, not from making your car look like a christmas tree with too many ornements on it.

my 2 cents...

I am compelled to throw in my $.02 here. Chrome fender flares on any vehicle looks cheap and ghetto. They serve no purpose and look like @$$!!!

/End rant

It's right up there next to the cheesy door chrome trim designed to protect against damage to the edge of the doors. It bothers me when I see perfectly good vehicles ruined with that crap. I have also found that such vehicles are usually equipped with a last name in the Old English font written on the back window.

I would also like to say that it is your vehicle and you have to live with it. Not me.

I'd like to ask the designers what the excuse behind the berlinetta's was. "starship camaro"...um.. no

In certain applications, it's not bad. It just looks out of place on newer automobiles. Back in the mid 80's, I had a '78 Chevy Nova Cabriolet that came with those, and it looked great. The car also had chrome bumpers, chrome window trim, etc... but it was an older car. Slap those puppies on a car that doesn't have an ounce of factory designed chrome trim on it, and they sort of stick out like a turd in a punchbowl.....
