$20.00 for a new one....

It may cost 7-10 for some products to blacken it, so you might as well get a new one.....IMO

Where? Ebay has a bunch of cheap vinal ones for $15-20. Just yesterday I noticed somebody offering a leather one, but it's never been on there before, so I have no idea what sort of quality to expect, and the pic on the auction sucks.

Do you know somewhere to get OEM-quality leather boots for $20?

I know GMpartsdirect.com sells them for $25-$30.....

I got mine for $20 from Lightning Auto Customs that sells them on ebay.com, although it's not perfect quality.......It's pretty damn good to OEM leather boots.....

I removed mine, saddle-soaped it a couple of times to keep the leather supple, used black shoe polish, then brushed to a shine. Worked great.

Mine's way too far gone for that.

Got a part number? All I can come up with is the entire 5 speed console insert (which comes with the leather) which costs $90+ if it's even still available.

I grabbed the shift boot from my 94 after wrecking it, had to stretch it a little to fit it to the metal frame that bolts in on the underside of the 3rd gen shift plate, but it fits great, it was also too long for my taste so i cut it down some, grab a used 4th gen one and do the same.

When I redid my interior I just made my own. Its out of a material called 'whisper' Its very soft and looks good. Much better than my worn out stock one.
